2,394 and counting. How did everything end up here? Okay, let’s re-wind...Err, Monday morning. That’s it, Monday morning, that’s when it all (kind of) started.

Usual day, cold and windy. I was forced out of my peaceful slumber by my Star Wars theme tune alarm on my phone, I somehow managed to sleep through the first two alarms. I really didn’t want to move, it was cold beyond the warm barrier that was my duvet and I wanted to go back to sleep.

Okay, so I know what you’re thinking; typical teenager, doesn’t want to get up for school, sleeps a lot. Well, you’re right. The repetitiveness of my life has become tedious.

I press the ‘home’ button on my phone and it lights up so bright I shove my face into the pillow. Slowly peaking at the numbers on my phone I read ‘8:25’. Shit. I am going to be late yet again. I scramble out of bed panicking, I hate being late (even to school).

I will spare you the unexciting details of my morning routine and fast forward a bit.

So, we arrive at school. ‘We’ being me and my friend who drives me to school most mornings (I am so so thankful for this). First lesson of a Monday morning and I (luckily) arrive just before my Psychology teacher does. Unpacking my equipment from my bag she stumbles in apologising for being late. “So today we will be starting….ahhh here it is!” she exclaims as she finds today’s work sheet on dysfunctional behaviour.

We shall fast forward this point to where my typical repetitive routine gets interrupted. Lunch time. As I walked into the ‘Study room’ (so called because it’s where we are supposed to study, but no-one hardly does) I immediately spotted my friends and rushed over to sit with them. As soon as I sat down it hit me, it was a smell you don’t usually breathe in on a normal-repetitive-boring-day. Trying to describe it, I noticed nobody else seemed to notice or even be bothered by it. I just couldn't put my finger on it.

Sulphur.

That was it. The whole room stunk like sulphur. No-one else seemed to notice, maybe it was just me? But it was such a vivid smell, it had to be real. I was about to grab my packed lunch out of my bag, then suddenly the fire alarm went off. So the usual happened, we all ventured outside and lined up in our forms. Usually when the fire alarm goes off, it’s almost always a test so no one particularly panics. This was different though. I looked back at the plain white building and saw a cloud of grey/black smoke emerging from the back of the school. I instantly turned towards people whispering in front of me, according to this group; a kid had used a Bunsen burner in his science class and lit all the exits to the room on fire so there was no escape for any of them. Looking around I noticed all the teachers had anxious looks on their faces. I went back to eavesdropping on the group in front of me.

"It was room 18, in the science block, I noticed as I walked past, it was this little kid who.....” My whole face dropped. My little sister was in that room.

I knew I had to do something about this, at least find out if she got out of the room. So I wandered around looking for her. Nothing. No sign of her. The only last possible explanation was that she was inside the school building, which was now showing a taller, dark black cloud above it since I last looked. I had to get in there.

Glancing around I figured a way to get into the building. There was an emergency door left a jar. I figured I could sneak off around the back and get to it. So I did. Luckily no one saw me. I ran towards the science building. I was on auto-pilot I had to get there and fast. I turned round a corner, almost there, and smacked right into something. Well, not something, someone. I heard this 'someone' grumble "Son of a bitch" in a low gruff tone, as the person stumbled backwards, I was knocked to the floor, landing flat on my back. I groaned. "Hey Dean. You okay?" I heard another softer voice ask. I looked up, there was someone else standing next to the person I ran into. Sitting up I took in my surroundings and the two people in front of me, now looking down at me.

"Are you okay down there?” the larger one of the two, who I hadn't just walked in to asked. Both of them now staring at me.

"Huh?" I replied. I gathered my thoughts staring back at both of these two guys. The tall one had long brunette hair; well long for a guy, and was wearing dark jeans a plaid shirt and a comfortable looking kaki jacket. He was holding a large duffel bag full of something heavy, but I dismissed it. The other guy, who I had bumped into was also wearing dark jeans (but these had holes in around the knees) a plaid shirt and a comfortable dark jacket, but he was shorter, but not short, and also had shorter hair, which was also brown but spiky (ish) both dressed in similar but I noticed that the smaller of the two had a strange amulet around his neck.

"Are you okay?" the taller guy repeated.

"Yeah...err...thanks", I replied.

"Sammy we got to go," the other one said to the taller one, which I now know was called 'Sammy'.

"We can't leave her here, Dean. The building is on fire, and there are other dangers too". I wondered what 'Sammy' was on about 'other Dangers’. What other dangers?

"Fine. You get her out of here and I'll carry on looking for it" moaned the guy who I now knew as Dean.

"I'm not leaving you alone here Dean."

"Then we are just going to have to bring her along." Dean gestured towards me, as I realised I was still sitting on the floor. So I got up and they both introduced themselves to me. Apparently 'Sammy' was just something his brother Dean (the other guy) called him, and I was just to call him Sam. I introduced myself and they went back to talking to each other again, as if I wasn't there.

"We can't bring her along, she'll get hurt. It's dangerous, and you know it." Sam argued. Dean went to argue back but I had rushed off while they were distracted. I was going to find my sister and no one was stopping me. I heard footsteps and shouting behind me; Sam and Dean. I took no notice and took off running I needed to find her. My mind was on nothing else. But not being the 'fittest' or the fastest person ever, the two caught up to me and stopped me right in my tracks.

"What do you think you are doing?" Dean asked.

"Going to find my sister. You?" I retorted.

"Look you can't go wandering off in a burning building all on your own". Sam looked genuinely concerned about me.

"Well what are you two doing wandering around here, burning building and everything?" I said my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"We are looking for a...." Dean started but was cut off immediately by Sam.

"We are trying to determine the cause of the fire, and to get everyone out safely." Sam explained. I didn't believe him. But I played along with it.

"All right then. You can come along with me. I'm trying to find my sister to make sure she’s safe, she’s not outside so that means she’s still in the Science room."  I was getting agitated and felt like running away from these two but they suddenly started walking in the direction I was running in earlier, leaving me standing there with a befuddled look on my face.

"Are you coming or are you just going to stand there?" Dean asked rhetorically. I rushed to them just lagging behind.

"So what do you think cause the fire?" Sam inquired. There was no reply off anyone. Only after a few seconds of awkward silence did I realise Sam was talking to me.

"Oh....Err....I overheard some kids saying that this little kid used a Bunsen burner and lit all the possible exits on fire so no one could get out." I breathed heavily trying to keep up with these long legged beings. Sam pondered the information he had just received from me, and Dean just stayed quiet.
