I've been to Kageyama's house once. It was last year, and I don't remember much about that day. It was cold and windy, about 2 days before Halloween. Kageyama and I were racing home, and I needed to catch my breath. The only problem is that it was too cold for me to breathe in deeply. My dad was with my mom and Natsu, looking for a diagnosis, so there was no one to remind me to put on a coat. I had on my clothes from practice still, just a white tee and basketball shorts. It was too much cold to handle. I fell forward, at first on all fours, but as I lost more consciousness I collapsed onto my side, my body spilling onto the ground in a concerning  fashion. Kageyama is, how do I put it, not the best in stressful situations, unless it's volleyball. He freaks out and he can't think and he always does something stupid. So instead of bringing me to the hospital or back to my house, he brought me to his home. I woke up to his mother scolding him about not bringing me to the hospital.

"He might be really hurt, Tobio!"

"Yeah but I didn't know what to do because I panicked and I didn't want him to be hurt and-"

"Are you guys even friends? I thought he was just some kid from your team. Why do you care so much?"

There was a short pause and I could feel Kageyama fidgeting since he was sitting on the end of the bed that I was laying in.

"W-Well we're on the same team so if he got hurt, it could affect us really negatively. Plus, look at him. He's fragile, and I just want to protect him.." A pink blush spread over my face and my head was spinning. He wants to protect me..?

"TOBIO, IS YOUR FRIEND AWAKE YET?????" A loud voice boomed from the other room and I used that as my cue to sit up and rub my eyes.

"Yeah, he is now, dumbass," Kageyama shouted.

"Tobio! Be nice to your aunt."

"Oh please, she's 21 and a college dropout. She can handle anything," Kageyama replied, rolling his eyes.

"Okay well, you stay here with your friend and I'll go start dinner," His mother said, walking out of the room.

"Hey, Hinata. Are you okay?"

"Hi, Kageyama.. I'm fine, but I need to text my mom that I'm here."

"Ah, I hope you don't mind, but I texted her using your phone."

"W-Wha? How do you know my password??"

"You told me once when you were telling a story."

"You.. remembered..?" I said, blushing at the thought.

"AH, sorry, I don't mean to be creepy. I won't use it again."

"Nah, it's okay!"

We had dinner later, and Kageyama kept staring at me. It was making me nervous, and I didn't know why he was glancing at me so much. Do I eat funny or something?

"Hinata, your mom is picking you up in 10 minutes," Kageyama had said after dinner.

"Okay, can I grab my bag from your room?"

"Sure, I'll come with you." We walked upstairs and Kageyama left his door open only slightly.

"Hinata..?" Kageyama said, in a quiet voice.

"Yeah, what's up Kags?" I responded, my voice dropping a bit to match the mood. He looked deep in thought and was staring at the ground. I noticed a light blush dancing on his cheekbones and nose and I began to feel nervous.

"I... I'm.. I just..." He stuttered through his sentence and continued to look at the grey carpeted floor, then gulped. "I'm really glad you're okay," He said, taking a step toward me.

"K-Kageyama. Were you worried about me..?"

"Yeah," He said, taking another step toward me so we were a few inches apart. Putting a hand on my shoulder and looking down at me, he dropped his voice to a husk vibration. "I always want to protect you and I don't know why."

I looked up at him, taking him all in. Damn, he's pretty.., I thought. His eyelashes draped over his eyes and he was the only thing I could see and smell at that moment. I could hear our heartbeats going thump, thump, thump..

"Hinata! Your mom is here!" Kageyama's mother had shouted. Kags and I jumped away from eachother and flushed red.

"Bye, Kageyama, see you at practice," I muttered, one foot out the door. We never spoke about it after that, and it frustrated me, but other things were happening and I was busy.

Two days after that, my mom got diagnosed with cancer.

13 months later, she died.

We still haven't talked about it.
