Lila's Secret- CHAPTER FIVE

The check engine light comes and I feel the car start to slow down. I pull over to the side of the road and take my food off the gas. It shuts off immediately. I scream in frustration and slam my hand on the steering wheel. A hum sounds and I lift my head as a small screen emerges from the dashboard. The blue glow in the form of a circle starts from a small dot and expands into several shades of blue rings alternating in different directions.

" Gone so soon Angel, I wouldn't be too keen on running when the only escape you have is between us and the merciless strip of Python's Cove" Stray lines emit from the circle mimicking sound as his voice fills the car. Eros' voice shocks me. I lean back in the seat, knees pulled to my chest as my hands wrap around them for me to defeatedly rest my chin on them.

"What no retort? Come home Lila. Cut the games and come home" I hear the resignation in his voice. He isn't angry or threatening, he sounds drained.
"'ll let you drive back but the minute you change course I'll have Vallis shut it down and we'll come get you." He sighs in exhaustion and I shake my head. I'm doing what's right for all of us. I'm still angry with him and my heart still aches from his hurtful remarks but I can't hate him or Vallis.

"Fuck you and your-" the window smashes and I scream as glass shards dig into my face. A heavy rock drops in my lap and a hand wrapped in nasty brown gauze grips the handle.

My eyes trail up the tattered jacket sleeve until they connect with the assailant. I gasp and push off to the other side of the car, the rock falls and I become immovable as the door slings open and he stands in front of me. My walking nightmare, the reason I've been running forever, my father.

"Miss me darlin'? Running may have kept you comfy for the last eleven months but you can't leave family!" His wrinkled face pulls into a disgusting wide toothed grin that forms deep lines around his eyes and cheek. I feel like everything has broken down and I'm back in that ratty old house all over again as they surround me like vultures. I brace on the passenger door .

"Please no, no" I hear Vallis and Eros screaming in the background but I can barely stay conscious as the door behind me is opened and I fall backwards into the arms of my mother. Her relaxed hair sticks out in all directions as she gives me a hateful glare.

"You think running is gonna save you sweetheart, you'll never leave." Dark spots cloud my vision. I open my mouth and a wave of coldness washes over me. Nothing comes out and all I hear is the sound of blood rushing through my ears.

I feel my body jolting as whatever I'm in hits a bump. My eyes flutter open, the rough burnt out seat digs into my uncovered legs. My eyes turn so far to the corner it hurts but everything in me demands an answer so I look through the two front seats and it's then everything clicks. I'm not on the run from Vallis or Eros. I'm hogtied in a car with my demeneted abusers. Slowly, I lift my chin and my eyes catch the same line of palm trees. We're still in Python Cove. It's a long drive, the town is miles away. Vallis and Eros liked it that way. Sure, they were ridiculously successful in town and beyond parish  lines but they liked seclusion, which is why we ended up in the middle of fucking nowhere sandwiched between dense forest and a forsaken no man's land called python cove. I always hated it but now I'm happy because it gives some comfort. They'll get here soon enough.

There's no doubt the two will find me. Vallis owned a tech company that specialized in nanotechnology. As far as I was aware he chipped us all and had some gadgets out here lining the miles of palm trees with small cameras. A tear slips down my cheek and the car skids to a halt.

"What the hell?"

"Your little johns got you under lock missy? You a whore out here selling my pussy?" I shut down. He grabs me by the hair in a tight grip and pulls my head back making me scream loud enough for Antarctic to shudder.

"They got guns Herald" I hear the fear in my mother's voice. Good, she should be scared. If Eros ever knew the things they did to me it's living they should be scared of. Death would be too much of a generous end.

"And I got a knife bitch." He turns to me and  flicks open the butterfly knife, smiling  as it swings between his two fingers. I don't give him a reaction. He could threaten me as much as he wants. I flinch when he grabs the rope around my arms tightly and with a swift jerk he cuts the rope binding me. My leg falls painfully on the old door making the car shake.

"Get out bitch and don't make a move." He swings his door open  as I regain my composure and push mine. The minute my feet touch the ground he moves so fast I don't even have time to blink when he holds the blade to my throat and starts taunting my men.

In front of us is Vallis' truck. The big imposing car does little to make the men any less intimidating. I see the brothers holding guns as they both come closer with slow calculating steps.

"One wrong move and the whore gets it" stupidly he leans too close to the other side. I notice the way both men stand on opposite sides of the road. Before they do it I'm all  too prepared.

"I want y'all to wire $700,000 t-"the sound of firing guns cause everything to become silent. I shut my eyes as warm blood splatters on my face. Heavy footfalls come to me and without waiting, I jump on Vallis, his hand smooths over my hair as he kisses my temple. My heart beats a mile a minute and relief washes over me completely. My hands are like tight ropes around his neck. I breathe in his scent and allow the tears to slip away. I don't want to look behind me. I know they killed the both of them. Eros' presence stifles me like black smoke. I feel him kiss my head.

I push away my head from Vallis' shoulder, his beautiful jade eyes give me comfort. They glimmer at me with unbridled joy.

"Why did you come?" My voice, barely a  whisper  causes his face to pull into a  grimace.

"Your ours Lila and as much as we're not worth giving up anything over we'd flip heaven and hell just to have you back, safe in our home."

"It's not my home" I say

"Yes it is" Eros interjects, looking as remorseful as how he does at work when he has to give bad news , "I should've never said any of that to you baby, I was so hurt that I said everything I knew would make you feel my pain and that was wrong."

"I did too, you guys are the only people who have been patient with me and shown me that you care. I just didn't want to keep that secret anymore, so I fixed it the only way I know how"

"Running is not going to change anything, especially not our feelings for you. You may not be able to say it back but we do-"

"I love you both" they don't pause or give me room to absorb what I've said. I'm crushed by them both. Eros spins my head and gives me a toe curling kiss. I relax into it and allow him to take full control, it doesn't last long as Vallis takes my head and gives me one of his own. I felt it in the kiss, I was theirs and they didn't want to use or hurt me. Somehow I could feel the love, the hurt, the unending joy with every electrical kiss.

I never knew how but for the first time without having anyone dictate my next move I suddenly felt safe. 

I felt loved and I didn't want to run away.
