The sugar act in 1764 ,the stamp act in 1765 ,and the Townshend acts at 1767 were some of the unpopular pieces of legislation placed upon the American colonies for the purpose of raising funds to pay the French and Indian war debt. The Americans form committees of correspondence and later a continental Congress to find solutions but cannot find common ground with the British and fighting broke out in 1775 American revolutionaries determined that separations was the only way of getting liberty and justice. On July 4, 1776 the declaration of independence was signed by Thomas Jefferson ,Benjamin Franklin , John Adams ,Roger Sherman ,and Robert R. Livingston.
