Chapter 3: Leorio Finally Gets off That Damn Boat

International man of mystery and sex symbol Leorio Paladiknight got off the boat. The sky was a clear vibrant blue, and it was hard to believe that just hours ago there had been a storm.
While less physically battered than the other passengers of the ship, Leorio's emotional state was, frankly, not that great. He was pretty pissed off actually.
"Leorioooooo how did you get so strong?! I bet you'll pass the hunter's exam easily...I want to become that powerful!"
"Leorio-sensei! While I wish there was time to learn more of your wisdom, we must hurry to the exam site! Though please, certainly you can at least tell me a bit about your ability on the way there...?"
Leorio had picked up some annoying groupies. After witnessing his unfathomable power on the boat, Gon and the other fellow had been completely won over. While a crowd of adoring fans was not an uncommon occurrence for him, these two were particularly clingy, and because they were heading to the same location, Leorio didn't have an excuse to ditch them.
"Listen, uh, kid—"
"I'm actually an adult. My sincerest apologies Master, in my negligence I forgot to give you my name. I am called Kura—"
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say. My point, is that...uh...I can't reveal the secrets of my ability to just anyone. Yeah, maybe someday if you get strong enough I'll teach it to you then."
Leorio immediately regretted his words.
"So you'll allow me to become your student?! Thank you, Master Leorio! I won't let you down."
"No! I absolutely do not—"
"We must begin my training immediately. Surely, you have much to teach me!"
"Teach me too, Leorio!" cried Gon.
Leorio sighed. This was going to be a long exam.

The truth was, even Leorio himself, in all his infinite wisdom, didn't know shit about his special ability. One day, when he was beating the crap out of some dude, he just did it. It was a bit of a shock at first, but gradually he was able to repeat it enough to figure it out. When Leorio got really (and I mean really) pissed at someone, he could unleash an attack of immense strength, enough to completely annihilate just about anyone. The catch was that right after it landed it would immediately heal the poor fool in question. It seemed like kind of a useless ability to Leorio, but he couldn't really complain. Nobody had ever taught him what nen was, so he thought the reason he was able to do this special attack was because he was quirky, and not like the other girls. Though of course, he was that too. This was probably how he had managed to subconsciously invent and master a nen ability, and one that was almost definitely not of his canon nen type, emission. What a special little snowflake Leorio was.

Leorio and his rapidly forming fanclub continued on their epic journey.
"Hey Leorio, where're you going? The captain told us to go to the cedar tree at the top of that hill," Gon said, pointing.
"Silly Gon, the map says that's in the opposite direction of the exam site, which I know for a fact to be Zaban City," Leorio smoothly corrected.
"I think we should still follow his advice though. This could be a test."
"I agree," Kura- ...I mean, the unnamed blond guy chimed in.
"Nobody cares what you think," Leorio wisely pointed out. "I'm gonna take a bus or something. Have fun on your little tree quest or whatever."
Gon and Poncho Guy looked conflicted. They were torn between their admiration of Leorio and their common sense, a situation I'm sure we all often find ourselves in. Leorio didn't give them time to decide though, and with a wave goodbye, he casually sprinted away. That takes care of that.
