The apartment door creaked open.
Silence.
Yuko froze. The room was...
Small.
Much smaller than he'd imagined.
Instant ramen cups overflowed from a trash bag in the corner.
Spoiled milk sat forgotten on the counter.
Dust coated nearly every surface.
The refrigerator hummed weakly.
Naruto quickly rushed inside.
"I-I was gonna clean!"
Yuko looked at him. "No."
Naruto froze.
"You were going to live in it."
Naruto looked away.
"...I don't really know how."
Those words hurt more than the room itself.
Because they were honest.
No one had taught him.
Not how to cook.
Not how to clean.
Not how to be a child.
Yuko slowly set the grocery bag on the counter.
"Where's your broom?"
Naruto blinked. "...Huh?"
"Your broom."
"You... you're not leaving?"
Yuko rolled up his sleeves.
"I refuse to let anyone live like this."
Naruto stared.
"You don't have to..."

An hour later...
The apartment looked completely different.
The trash was gone.
The counters had been scrubbed clean.
The dishes were washed.
The windows were open, letting fresh air drift through the tiny apartment.
Naruto sat cross-legged on the couch.
Watching.
Every few minutes he'd quietly ask,
"...Can I help?"
Yuko always had the same answer. "Come here."
Little by little...
Naruto learned.
How to rinse dishes before washing them.
How much soap to use.
How to sweep corners instead of just the middle of the floor.
How to fold blankets.
How to wipe tables without leaving streaks.
Simple things.
Things every child should've been taught years ago.

"I didn't know cleaning was this tiring."
Yuko snorted. "That's because you did it properly this time."
Naruto grinned.
"...The apartment looks bigger."

Yuko looked around.
"You can finally see it."
