~Chapter 1~Under The Apple Tree

"Pony! Pony? Wake up!" 

Pony's mother walked into her son's room. A bundle of bedclothes stirred. Pony yawned.

"Wake up before you're late for school!" said Mrs. Horse. Pony mumbled something about her waking him up from a particularly good dream and fell out of his bed. 

"Yeah, yeah. It sucks. Now hurry up," Mrs. Horse rolled her eyes and walked downstairs.

Pony picked himself up from the floor and changed into a yellow T-shirt and blue denim jeans. He put on a pair of cowboy boots and threw a jacket on, nearly knocking his lamp over. He grabbed his bag off his desk and ran downstairs.

His mom put a piece of toast onto the table. "Honestly, I have no idea how you don't get a tardy..." she said. Pony put the toast into his mouth and waved goodbye. 

Of all the days to be late...

"Pony! You're late again!" 

Pony skidded to a stop, bumping his leg against Penny Pig's desk. He had tried to sneak into class, with obvious failure. He straightened himself and tried to ignore the throbbing pain in his knee, swearing under his breath.

"Go to your desk. Next time it's a tardy," Madam Gazelle told him. Pony nodded and limped to his desk. 

"Are you okay?" Penny asked him, rubbing her eraser over her workbook. Pony nodded. "Yeah..."

Pony noticed a girl sitting at the desk diagonally across from him. He had never seen her before. Was she new? He decided to ask her later. He couldn't help but notice her long black and white stripy hair and her cute purple Robin-Hood style hat. 

"PONY!" Madam Gazelle slammed her hand on his desk. Pony jumped.

 "Uh, yes ma'am?" he said nervously.

"Are you paying attention??" Madam Gazelle asked. 

"I am now," Pony said quickly. The new girl turned around in her seat and looked at him. She put her hand to her mouth and giggled. Pony put his pencil bag onto his desk and unzipped it as if he was trying to find a way to climb into it. 

Thankfully, the bell rang. Pony got up and sped out of the classroom, Penny at his heels. 

"That was really sore, Pony," Penny said, getting her lunch out of her locker. 

"Don't remind me...by the way, who was that girl?" Pony asked. 

"Oh, her? I don't know. All I know is that she's new here," Penny said, slamming her locker shut. "Let's go!"

"So, uh, what do you guys think of that new girl?" Bunny asked, hanging from a branch of the apple tree. She reached up and picked an apple from a higher branch. She bit into it, looking at the others intently. 

"She looks nice," Penny said. Pony nodded as if agreeing with her. 

"Hi...mind if I join you?" a voice asked. Pony turned around to see the new girl. 

Before he could reply, Penny immediately said "sure!" 

"Thanks...my name is Zizzy," the girl said, sitting down next to Pony.

"Uh, I'm Pony," Pony said, rubbing the back of his neck. 

"Oohhh~" Penny put her hands to her heart and swooned. Zizzy looked at Penny, her cheeks were slightly pink. Pony grabbed an apple off the grass and threw it at her. Penny looked annoyed as the apple bounced off her head. 

Thankfully (for Penny) the bell rang.
