Saturday rushes by quickly and soon it's almost time for the dance. I slip into the dress and put the choker around my neck. It takes me an hour to curl my hair and perfect it. When I'm finished, my hair is draped over my shoulders in loose prefect gold rings and I am smiling. Lastly, I slip on my shoes and head downstairs where Mom is waiting for me by the front door. She wears tight jeans, brown boots with buttons on the side that go up to her knees, a tan colored shirt with orange and blue flowers, and a large red jacket with bronze buttons. Her hair curled and put up into a low ponytail.
She smiles when she sees me striding down the stairs, her face lighting up. "You look gorgeous," she tells me.
"Thanks Mom," I smile back at her.
"Are you ready?" She questions, searching for the keys in her large tan leather purse.
"Yeah," I reply, excitement and nervousness coursing through my veins.
I get into the passenger seat and Mom starts the car and we pull out of our driveway, down our long winding private, and to school.
I sit in my seat, quietly. Inhaling, I smooth out my dress, nervous about the dance. I don't usually do social things like this and actually this is my first dance. I hope it goes well.
My worry increases tremendously the moment Mom pulls into the parking lot. It's so crowded, you would think you were at the state fair. I bite the inside of my cheek and mess with my hands out of habit.
"Well have fun. I'll be here around eleven when it's over," she informs me and I nod, no words able to come out of my mouth.
I open the door and step outside, the cool breeze blowing my hair slightly. Taking deep breaths, I slowly walk to the building.
When I reach the glass double doors, I pause waiting, anxiety and nervousness washing through every bone in my body. Trembling, I open the door and step inside.
The air is slightly warm as I step inside and music blares throughout the large room. The tables that we eat at for lunch are pushed to the outer sides except for a few, which hold food and beverages.
Guys in tuxedos and girls with different colored fancy dresses dance in the center.
I stand there for a moment, taking it all in. Someone taps me on my shoulder and I turn around, my dress twirling. I see Jeremy smiling at me. He wears a black tuxedo, black dress pants, and a light pink tie. His hair is slicked back and his eyes are blazing in the dim lighting.
"You look pretty," he compliments and I start blushing.
"Um thanks," I reply. "And you look," I pause for a minute thinking. "Cute?"
He arches one eyebrow, still smiling. "You think I'm cute?" he asks and I laugh nervously.
"Yeah and handsome," I start blushing more, my cheeks turning a dark scarlet color.
"You're funny," he comments, grinning. "Come on. Let's go dance."
He grabs my arm and yanks my to the center of the cafeteria, not waiting for an answer. The fast song that was just playing changes to a slow romantic song and I let out a gulp.
"Are you going to dance?" he asks me when I stand there, paralyzed from fear, excitement, and nervousness. "You know," he says smiling. "I'm not going to bite."
"Yeah I know," I speak quietly. " anyway if you did, I would tackle you and punch you repeatedly," I tease and he stifles a laugh.
"But seriously, do you want to dance?" he asks me. "And tell me the truth. No lying."
"No," I say. "I really don't want to, but I am. Come on." I put my arms on his shoulders and he sets his at around my waist.
Sparks shoot through my mind, and I start shaking. He doesn't notice, or at least if he does, he doesn't say anything and I'm grateful.
The longer we dance, the more comfortable I become with his hands around my waist and after a little while, I kind of like it. Slowly I close my eyes and lean my head against his chest, drifting off to the sound of the music.
I know it's a short chapter but I hope you like it. Please vote and comment if you like it.
