03. Pelican Town

Jordy walked into Pelican Town. It was very cute: different colored houses, lots of grass, bushes and flowers. Not many houses though, not very crowded either. He saw a girl sitting on a bench, reading a book. Other than that there was nobody here. He walked to the nearest house. It was a white house with a red cross above the door. That must have been the hospital. Jordy walked to the house directly next to the hospital. There was a board with a calendar. On the calendar there were pictures of people, presumably the locals. There were also two purple flags on the calendar. Jordy had no idea what those could be. Maybe a special event or something? "Ah! Jordy! You came to explore the town!" Jordy heard somebody calling behind him. It was Lewis. "Yes that's right", Jordy answered, "But I don't see anybody here." "Well it is a Monday. It is 10 o'clock. Everybody is working, you see", said Lewis. Jordy laughed a bit. "Right." Lewis walked towards the door of the house they were standing in front of and pointed to it: "This is Pierre's General store. Pierre sells the best quality seeds and other goodies in town. That I can guarantee." "I'll check it out", Jordy replied and walked in.

It was a huge store with a lot of stuff: seeds, vegetables, bottles of all sorts of liquor. Jordy walked towards the desk. A man appeared from behind a shelf. "Welcome! Ah! It's Jordy! The new farmer! I am so glad to finally meet you, I can't tell you how much this means to the town." Pierre shook Jordy's hand, for quite a while. Pierre was very shaky, and a bit awkward too. He wore a lot of brown clothes, which is fine. It makes him look warm and nice. A bit like the store! "I'm Pierre, father, husband and owner of this local general store. If you're looking for seeds, my shop is the right place to go. I'll also buy produce from you for a good price!" Jordy smiled: "It's very nice to meet you. This store is amazing, it looks very good!" "Thank you, thank you", Pierre replied proudly. "I worked very hard on it. Many years I have spent to make it this as beautiful as she is today." Jordy said: "I assume it is going very well then?" Pierre looked a little bit to the ground. "Well..." A woman walked in from the back. She had green hair and a long blue dress. She looked at Jordy a bit questioningly, but started to smile. "Hello there! You must be Jordy, the new farmer. I'm Caroline." "Hi there", Jordy answered. "This is my wife", explained Pierre. "Good to meet you", Jordy responded. Caroline smiled and said: "Have you met our daughter Abigail yet? She is the pale girl with purple hair and very dark clothes, not to miss." "Is she not with you?", asked Pierre. "I thought she was in the store with you", claimed Caroline. "You know what? I'll explore the town a little bit more and see if I can find her!" said Jordy. "What a good idea!" Caroline commented a bit loud, as if Jordy was supposed to do that. She didn't even say thank you. "Thank you, Jordy", Pierre said softly. Jordy walked towards the exit, but stopped and turned around. "Is it okay if I swing by later to buy some seeds?" Pierre looked up at Jordy, his eyes got bigger and he started to smile. As if nobody has said that for a long time. HeHeHeHe was very happy: "Why- Y- Yes of course! I- I'll set everything up!" Pierre ran towards the back. Jordy laughed and went outside.

This was the perfect opportunity for him to meet new people. That was his goal of that day. Oh, and to find Abigail of course. He didn't know where to begin searching. Stardew Valley may be a small place but standing there it seemed so big. A soft, warm spring breeze was howling. It made Jordy appreciate the nature here more. A man walked out of the hospital holding a cup of coffee. Messy hair, glasses, only a moustache, a green doctors jacket and a red tie... This must be the doctor. Jordy walked towards him: "Hi there. I'm Jordy. I'm the new guy", he said. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Harvey, the local doctor", Harvey answered. "Are there a lot of incidents here?" asked Jordy. Harvey laughed: "Not anymore, but there used to be. People used to explore the valley a bit more, but that phase is over." Jordy frowned. "Oh? Why did they stop?" "I have no idea. But my answer is no, there is not much to do here. It is mostly regular check-ups and medical procedures for all the residents here. Which is great! I want the people here to be healthy and happy. That's all that matters to me. It's rewarding work." Jordy nodded and smiled. Harvey took a sip of his coffee and asked: " What are you up to right now?" "I'm looking for people to meet—and Pierre and Caroline asked me if I could find Abigail for them. Do you have any idea where she could be, maybe?" Harvey took another sip of his coffee. "Hmm..." he mumbled. "I do see her with a boy by the name of Sebastian a lot... And at the graveyard. Uh- Yes, we have a graveyard." Jordy looked over his shoulders and then back to Harvey. "Alright, I'll just wander around and see if I can meet anyone! And ask for Abigail of course." Harvey laughed. "Yes you do that! See you later and welcome to Stardew Valley!" "Thank you!"
