I woke up to searing pain on the back of my neck. I groaned and looked around. I was in an open hut with white curtains letting a gentle breeze through the air. I sat up wincing a little from the pain I felt.
“You’re awake.” a voice said off to my right.
I turned and saw Percy sitting there. His sea-green eyes staring into mine.
“Yeah no thanks to you friend.” I rubbed the back of my neck and scoffed.
“I’m sorry about that, I don’t know what got into her.”
“Yeah me neither, she hit a cripple. I could sue her.” I said, sarcasm lacing my voice.
Percy chuckled deepy, the sound sent shivers throughout my body. I got up, my knees buckling a little. Percy shot up and helped steady me. I smiled and gave him a thankful nod. I heard the clop of hooves and in came Chiron. My least favorite centuar. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest. Annabeth and Grover followed in. I glared daggers at Annabeth, my neck still stiff from her little hit.
“Elena, glad to see you could make it.” Chiron greeted me.
I scoffed, “Not by choice, nice right hook you got there Chase.” I said with venom.
She turned red in embarrassment and stayed silent. Chiron reached to the side and picked up a glass full of what looked like apple juice.
“Here, drink this.” he said.
I took it skeptically and sniffed it, “What is it?”
“Nectar.” Percy responded.
I gave them all a skeptical look before taking a sip. It tasted nothing like apple juice, I tasted my mom’s famous hot chocolate. The one she made when I got sick. Before I knew it I drained the glass, I put it down and pain shot through my body, I stumbled forward, Chiron put his hand on my shoulder steadying me. I shot him a glare before I stood straight again. The pain in my neck was mysteriously gone.
“What was that?”
“A test, nectar can kill mortals. You passed.” Chiron answered.
I shot daggers at the horse-man in front of me, “So you could’ve killed me.”
“No, you passed through the barrier. That means you’re a half-blood.” the centaur said to me.
I throw my hands up in anger, “I’m not a half-blood! I told you that a year ago! When you told me about a stupid prophecy!” I spat.
“Well you’re something,” Annabeth shot back, “you passed through the barrier no problem.”
I turned my gaze to her, “I’m mortal! I’ve told you all that already! Now will you just leave me alone?”
“I’m afraid we can’t do that, Elena.” Chiron told me.
“Why not!” I snapped.
“You’re still weak, at least stay one night so you can regain your strength and get claimed.”
“I’m not going to get claimed! I’m not a demi-god!”
The centaur nodded, “very well. But like I said before you’re still weak. Just stay one night and if you still wish to go Percy will escort you back. I assume he’s already told you that.” My eyes turned to the boy with black hair and green eyes. I relaxed instantly, I didn’t know why. I hated that Chiron was right, my body felt like it was on fire from the stupid nectar. I simply nodded in agreement. A small smile appeared on the centaur's face.
