The bus broke down in Las Vegas. We had switched to another one half way through our drive from Tennessee and this was supposed to be the last one on our way to Hollywood.
“Sorry everybody, I should have the bus up and running in about an hour. Meet back here then.” the driver announced.
There were chorused groans and complaints coming from everyone except Percy, Annabeth and I. Having ADHD is not the best when it comes to sitting on a bus for a long period of time. We wandered through the streets and came across a mall, we all looked at each other and shrugged. I thought Annabeth and I were good now, but nope. When Percy would so much stand next to me I caught a glare from her.
We all walked inside and were greeted by a woman in a black veil, her piercing green eyes scorched my soul. They weren’t soft like Percy’s they looked mean and intimidating.
“Good afternoon! How are you?” she asked us.
I could sense something in her voice. It was like a calm soothing tone but it felt as if it passed right over me. Percy and Annabeth however, their posture changed and they looked like they got transported into a trance. I felt intimidated by this woman, I didn’t trust her. Something was wrong, I could feel it.
“I heard about the bus accident, you poor dears must be so tired and hungry.”
“Hungry.” Percy nodded dreamily.
“Tired.” Annabeth responded the same way.
“Are you guys okay?” I asked, shaking their shoulders.
Neither of them answered, I looked at the woman. She smiled at me but it held a menacing look, “Who are you?” she asked me.
“That’s none of your concern.” I snarled.
I grabbed Percy’s hand, “Percy look at me. Are you okay, what’s happening?” I whispered making sure whoever that woman was couldn’t hear me.
He turned to me, I breathed a sigh of relief, hopefully he could still hear me. His beautiful sea-green eyes were glazed and he seemed unresponsive. I was worried, keeping my grip on him I turned to Annabeth. I gripped her wrist, hard. Her body jumped in surprise but there was no glare, not even a recognition that I was even there.
“Guys! What’s going on? Look at me, answer me! Do something!”
“Don’t worry Elena, your friends are in good hands. So are you.” there it was again, the sense of calm that washed right over me.
“Listen, lady I don’t know who you are but I didn’t go through a fucking two-headed dog just to get stuck here!” I yelled.
“Elena why are you being so rude?” Percy asked from behind me.
I turned and smiled, “Can you hear me?”
He nodded hazily like he was still in a trance, “Stop being so rude, this woman is giving us food.”
I shook my head, “No listen to me, you and Annabeth are in some sort of trance. You need to snap out of it,” I checked the time on the wall. We had about half an hour before the bus would be ready. I turned back to the woman, “Sorry to burst your bubble lady but we’re leaving.” I grabbed Percy and Annabeth’s hands and pulled but they wouldn’t move, it was like they’re feet was cemented to the floor.
“Why don’t you just leave your friends Perseus and Annabeth with me? I’ll take very good care of them.”
My blood boiled, I felt energy surge through my body once again, “I don’t know who you are but if you even think about hurting my friends I swear to-”
