Harry's POV
I was awoken by a loud tapping noise coming from the window of my bedroom. A groan escaped my lips as my hand stumbled for my glasses on my bedside table. My hand blindly landed on them as I lazily shoved them onto my face, sitting up with my newly gained vision.
I glanced at the clock. '7:16,' it read. What was arriving at 7:16 in the bloody morning?
My feet swung over the side of my tall bed, the tapping noise becoming aggravating. I stomped a couple feet away to my window, throwing open the curtains. To my surprise, an owl, one that I did not particularly recognize, was the source of the noise. I unlatched the lock and pulled one glass side open.
The owl was brown in color, eyes golden like the sun. It perched itself on my window sill. Attached to its foot, was an envelope, white. I gentle grabbed it from the string, turning it to make sure it had the right address.
Harry J. Potter
317 W. Lauder St. Building #14The beautiful cursive font was entirely correct. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I turned the envelope and ripped the evergreen wax seal to reveal the contents of the mail. It was a letter.
Dear Harry Potter,
Hello, friend. (I guess that statement would be up for discussion.) I wanted to say hello. I'm not particularly sure where I am going with this letter, so please, bear with me. I wanted to thank you. I want to thank you for showing me what it means to be good; that it's not a bad thing to be. If it weren't for you, Potter, I would have never stood up to my father like that, and I would never be in the place I am now. I'm happy, for once. Happy to be away from my parents, to be on my own. Happy being myself. I don't have to constantly live up to my last name anymore. Happy to be free to be who I am. So, thank you.... I also need to apologize. I was a real (for lack of better words) dickhead in the past. To you, Weasley, Granger, everyone. And for that, I am sorry. I've learned from my mistakes. I've even learned how to make friends, actual friends. I've learned how to love... I would really appreciate it if you would be willing to meet with me somewhere. Nothing fancy, just for tea, if you'd prefer. I would really love getting to know you, as a friend this time rather an enemy.
Love, Draco L. Malfoy x
p.s. my address is 384 E. 16th Street, Building #28 if you want to write me back.
I was quite honestly shocked. This was not how I expected my Thursday morning to go. Although, something in the back of my head was extremely happy. I rummaged through the desk I was resting against, finding parchment and an envelope. My quill was already set on the desk. I sat down and began to write back immediately.
Dear Draco,
Hey there! I was shocked to receive your letter this morning. A good shocked, mind you. I would love to meet up with you. Mainly so that you can shower me with all of your gratitude in person. All jokes aside, how does Saturday work? 11 o'clock? I know a place. I can pick you up as well, if that works for you. We can talk more then? I'm glad to hear you're doing well.
p.s. I like the sound of friends. And call me Harry.
p.p.s. The owl is very charming. What is its name?
Love, Harry.
I tucked my written letter into the envelope, sealing it with a maroon wax. I chuckled. Looks like we both never grew out of our house pride. On the back I scribbled in his name and address before sending off, presumably Draco's bird, with the envelope tied onto its foot.
...
About 30 minutes later, the same tapping noise emerged from the same window and I sat on my bed. I jumped up, welcoming the owl back to its previous spot on the windowsill.
I snatched the letter and tore it open, not even bothering to read the label this time.
Dear Harry,
Thank you for accepting the invite. Saturday at 11 works perfectly for me. And as you already have my address, yes, I would love for you to pick me up. I'm looking forward to seeing you once again (and of course I will be showering you with all of my gratitude). And my owl's name is Iris. She is very sweet. Thank you, Harry.
Love, Draco x
