The next morning, Gen awoke refreshed. She slept through the night. Restlessly, but she just put that on her body healing. She felt better and that's all that mattered. Upon sitting up she noticed the pain in her nerves had gone down significantly, though it was still present. She stood and got dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a sweater she had stolen from Fred ages ago- his Christmas sweater from Molly. He teased her for it, saying Molly had made her her own, and of course Genevieve wore it happily, but some days it just felt better to wear an oversized sweater that smelled of him. She thought of the night before and wondered if he might be mad at her for defending Draco. She would understand if he was, as she wasn't very sympathetic to his point of view. Had he gone off and started spending time with the one person she hated most, and then he sided with her in a fight, Gen wouldn't be too happy either.
Figuring Fred would be in the Great Hall for breakfast, she finished getting ready and headed down. Smiling at the realization that he was there, she walked up behind him and laid her arms over his shoulders, letting her chin rest on his head. He tensed for a moment and she was worried she was also right in assuming he'd be mad at her.
"Morning," she greeted him softly, almost apologetically.
"What, you don't want to eat breakfast with your new best friend?" he asked sarcastically, causing her to frown. She moved away from him and he turned to look at her, an angry look on his face that she had never seen directed at her. "I thought you might be mad at me. He was right, you know. You were just going after him because-" "Because he has made it his business to ruin everything so far? Because he's been bullying my family and I since we met? Because he beat me to a pulp and made his friends hurt you? What, you think because he makes one valid decision that everything is done and forgiven?" Fred said aggressively. George smiled at Gen apologetically, trying to convey that he's been trying to calm Fred down all night and morning. She looked from George to Fred sheepishly. "No, you're right. I'm sorry," she said gently. "And furthermore, his dad has been makin- wait, you are?" he asked, interrupting himself just in time to stop himself from raising his voice. "Yeah, I wouldn't be happy with you if roles were reversed, and I definitely would have killed Malfoy already if I were you. I get it, and I'm sorry I haven't kept you informed on every decision. I was working with the enemy and accidentally became friends with him along the way. It's hard to not sympathize with the devil when you understand him though, and although I do believe you were just using me as an outlet for your personal problems with him, I shouldn't have sided with him and I should have stayed with you a bit longer instead of storming out with him. I'm sorry," she explained quickly, playing with the necklace he gave her nervously.
"Oh, then what am I yelling for," he chuckled, "Get over here." He scooted over to make room for her between him and George. She sat next to the two ginger boys, Fred instantly snaking an arm around her waist and kissing her temple.
"How are you feeling, Gen? Freddie told me you were in a lot of pain," George asked, looking away from the notebook in which he was writing. "I'm a bit better. It doesn't hurt to sit or lay down anymore, but walking still isn't the most comfortable. And don't even get me started on how hard it was to get my pants on earlier," she joked, trying to ease the tension. "Why bother? I think I rather like you without them," Fred joked, fixing her a plate so she wouldn't have to waste her strength with garbage like serving spoons and plates. "Ha! You wish you could say you've seen me without pants on," Gen teased, sipping the juice George handed her with a nod of appreciation. "I seem to remember a rather revealing hospital gown a month or so ago that would make you eat your words," he replied quickly. She chuckled. "Yeah, because that's what you were focussed on. I seem to remember you crying too much to even notice," she mocked, ruffling his hair. "She's got ya there, Fred, you were a mess," George added with a nod. "You can hardly blame me! Anyways, Gen, you're just deflecting the real issue here, you're afraid to take your clothes off around me," Fred said jokingly. "I'm not afraid of anything except losing you, babe," she responded smoothly, making his ears go red. "And intimacy," he added mockingly. "Pfft, you talk as if on our first date I didn't cry for half an hour about my dead parents," she answered. "Uh oh, she pulled the dead parents card, Fred, be smart with what you say next," George mocked. "She knows very well that I did not mean emotional intimacy," Fred replied. "And Fred knows he hasn't even tried initiating anything farther than kissing my neck, so I don't even know what he's talking about," she added, eating her eggs. "But what if I did?" he asked in a lower voice, causing her to choke with laughter. "Fred! This isn't a conversation to have with your brother!" she insisted, taking a sip of her juice to calm her coughing. "Why? He's going to know what's going on when I kick him out of my dorm anyways," he joked in a whisper, rubbing her back to help soothe her lungs. "You're an idiot, Fred Weasley," she replied simply in the same hushed tone, shaking her head in fake disapproval. "But I'm your idiot. A horny one at that," he joked, but she could tell he wasn't fully joking. "I'm not discussing this in the Great Hall for all to hear, Fred," she stated. He nodded and rested his chin on his hand, his elbow resting on the table. He stared at the plate in front of him, realizing he just addressed his sexual frustration, only making it worse. Gen looked at him as she finished her food and smirked.
