You wanna know what’s more awkward than being in a car with your boyfriend? Being in a car with your boyfriend, his mom, a girl you used to have a crush on your boyfriend, and his cousin who came out of a tree. Yeah...Grover called us with an urgent message. He said he found two powerful half-bloods at this private school in Maine. Percy’s mom; Sally, had to drive us up there. I was so awkward around her, it was the first time I’d ever met his mom. She liked me...I hope.
It was winter, snow covered the ground as we drove through on the dirt road. Percy was in the passenger side while Annabeth, Thalia, and I were in the back. Annabeth and I were on better terms, you could even say we were friends. She’d gotten over the fact that Percy and I were dating. Thalia scared the shit out of Percy and I a few months prior when the fleece’s magic brought her back. Let’s just say that magic worked all too well. Now there were two kids of the Big Three gods and Thalia was on the verge of eighteen, at least that’s what she looked like. We pulled into the school and before we could even get out Percy’s mom turned to all of us.
“Are you sure you guys don't want me to wait?” she asked.
“We’ll be fine mom, we don’t know how long it will take.” Percy said.
“I’m worried Percy.”
“Don’t worry Mrs. Jackson I’ll keep him out of trouble.” I said.
She smiled at me, “I don’t doubt it Elena.”
Percy blushed, “You guys have everything? Extra clothes, ambrosia?”
“Yes mom-”
“Drachmas in case you have to contact camp?”
“Yes mom! We’re fine, c’mon guys.”
I could tell Mrs. Jackson was a little hurt when Percy scurried out of the car, I stayed back a little, “Don’t take it to heart Mrs. Jackson. We’ll be fine, I promise.”
She smiled and gave me a small hug, “Thank you Elena.”
I smiled and nodded before exiting the car. I caught up with them and heard Thalia say, “You mom’s so cool Percy.”
“She’s okay, what about you? Got any trouble with your mom?”
Thalia’s face hardened, “If that was any of your business Percy-”
“You know what! How about we get inside!” I interrupted.
“Yep great idea! Grover’s probably waiting.” Annabeth agreed.
We all swiftly walked to the school and made our way inside. The school itself wasn’t bad, it was really antique with old weapons decorating the halls. I reached up and gripped my necklace, I saw Percy do the same as he reached into his back pocket. Annabeth gripped her dagger’s hilt that was strapped to her side. Thalia twisted her bracelet that changed into a shield with the imprint of medusa’s face. I saw it once and nearly ran away in a fight, the thing radiates so much fear.
“Where is-” I started to say something when the doors slammed shut behind us, “Right, guess we’ll stay awhile.” I murmured.
Then two people burst through the doors, one was a man and the other was a woman. They stared at us for a moment, expecting an explanation.
“Well?” asked the women, “What are you doing here?”
“I..uh..” Percy stuttered out.
I realized that we hadn’t planned for a confrontation like this, “Ma’am we-”
“Ha! No visitations allowed, you shall be eee-jected!” the man jumped in.
He had a french accent and I forced myself to not laugh at how he tried to pronounce some words.
