Disclaimer: I obviously do not own Harry Potter nor any of the characters in its world as they are all products of J.K. Rowling's prowess, thus making this piece of work unprofitable. What I have created is the OC and the varying plot lines from the first book which will be continued here. The background plot is canon-compliant, taken from HP and the Order of The Phoenix. 'Romeo and Juliet' is most notably a Shakespeare masterpiece, and my reason for choosing it as a title shall be revealed in the unfolding of the story.

And now... let the adventures begin.

PROLOGUE

~S~

Severus Snape had not been in the Malfoy Manor for quite some time now. The last occasion where he remembered gracing, or more precisely, cursing the place with his presence, was his godson's birthday and he hadn't even stayed there for long. It would be accurate to say that he dreaded going to that place for it held so many gruesome memories that would forever haunt him in his sleep such as his branding as an official servant of Lord Voldemort, the numerous times he had been hit with the Cruciatus curse as well as when he was the one doing the Unforgivables, and most horrifically, the amount of times he saw innocent lives being taken from that grandeur of a home.

The manor was a result of the fortunes of both the Malfoy and Black families, who were known as two of the most wealthy pureblood aristocrats. Severus knew Lucius and Narcissa well enough to discern that both of them definitely would not have settled for less. The luxury that the manor provided, however, was not any sort of recompense for the putrid of emotions he was feeling now that he was being summoned.

Quit whining, you fool. At least bloody Bellatrix will not be there to fuck with your hair... although the possibility of Noseless murdering you tonight should remind you of your place.

Severus had just arrived in Spinner's End and was casting a quick cleaning charm to remove all the dirt accumulated from ten months of his house being inhabited when his Dark Mark started to burn him alive, scorching through his skin so painfully that he had knocked off his lamp and collapsed to writhe on the floor before being able to stand up and think sensibly. Years of similar experience made him know where to go and what to do next, so he forced himself to get his arse to the manor immediately.

The flight was all too short for Severus to fully prepare for his first meeting with the Dark Lord in thirteen years. The feel of the gush of air welcoming him as he passed the iron gates with ease was regrettably familiar.

After climbing a series of stairs, carrying with him the weight of the world and wary of what was about to happen, Severus finally reached the drawing room. He was met with the two Carrows unconscious on the ground while Yaxley lay panting beside them, visibly tortured. His old schoolmate, Avery, who he, once in his life, considered a friend, had cuts all over his body and bled profusely as Greyback floated mid-air, obviously under the Imperius curse. Finally, he saw Lucius on his stomach and Narcissa kneeling down, weeping relentlessly while holding onto her husband as if he was about to die.

"Severus."

His name was hissed spitefully by none other than the Dark Lord himself, who was the only one left standing up in the room aside from himself. Nagini slithered around the room, circling around the fallen Death Eaters repeatedly, ignoring Wormtail who was trying to get the serpent to return to its master.

"My lord," Severus kneeled, ensuring his Occlumency shields were all set up in his head. "I beg for your forgiveness for not heeding your call sooner."

Voldemort looked at his servant straight in the eye, and Severus could feel his head wanting to split open. "Where were you, Severus? As I have told everyone in this room, I have given you all the privilege of having the mark for the sole purpose of being here at my demand."

"Forgive me, my lord, I shall seek to endeavor to always be punctual. I was in the very place you told me to remain in, Hogwarts--"

"Crucio."

Severus hated the feeling of not being able to withstand the pain of the Cruciatus long enough to preserve his dignity; not even a minute in the manor and he was already convulsing from pain, hitting the floor hard when he fell down. No matter how many times he was hit with the very same spell, he still couldn't get used to it, and he hated himself for that.

Damn it, thirteen years and you still have not come up with any ideas for tolerance. Fucking pathetic.

"Tell me, Severus, why haven't you responded two hours ago when I called for you? Surely my return should mean everything to you, had you remained loyal to me."

"My lord," Severus panted. "Your return means everything to me. I did not go straight here, my lord, because Dumbledore called for me and has provided me with a lot of information that will be useful to our cause. I am loyal and I always will be, my lord."

"Then why have you not attempted to search for me when I vanished?!" Voldemort asked dangerously.

"I was wrong, my lord. I had assumed that you will not return with us--"

"Crucio!"

Severus felt his organs being twisted inside and his ribs cracking from the spell. He was deaf to his own screaming and numb to any other feeling besides pain.

"I am disappointed in you. All of you. I want you all to gather the rest of the Death Eaters as soon as possible. Do not fail or face the consequences." Voldemort ordered and disapparated with Nagini.

Not knowing if he could still hold onto his life after that round of torture, Severus found himself questioning why he signed up for such a deadly job. He doubted his own ability to fulfill a promise he made to a certain person who once meant his whole life, and wondered what exactly was his reason for making such a promise in the first place.

Because you failed her.

Is there still any reason for me to remain alive?

Severus exhaled, still shaking from the curse, unaware that Narcissa has been screaming out his name.

Her.
