Who Once Was Me

Fast and wild,
Pure and free.
Just a child,
Who once was me.

Stolen cookies,
From big glass jars.
Cherry suckers,
Plastic cars.

Now halfway grown,
Near on my own,
My only toy,
My cellular phone.

My world once bright,
So fun and cheery,
Has now been forced,
To strict and dreary.

Who to please?
Homework tonight?!
I can't think straight,
But sure, I'm feeling alright.

There's no pure joy,
There's only content.
We're all our own,
Small continent.

So seperated,
From me to you.
Conversation? Please!
"That's just so ew!"

But wish I may,
And wish I might,
My childhood's gone,
Like a flyaway kite.

It was taken by standards,
By fear and by pride.
It was taken by policies,
And people so snide,
As to see what lay before them.
An individual,
Someone real.
And to strip them of originality,
And all ability to feel.

So tell me once today my dear,
How ever can I be,
Again so fast and wild?
The kid who once was me.
