((forgot to mention before. this story will be in first person point of view.))

---------

it's been about three days since i've moved to ikebukuro for a change in scenery. not to mention, to get away from my younger brother as well. i was out shopping for groceries and such. one bag filled with food, the other filled with random things i've picked up. the store didn't sell only groceries and of corse i'm going to take advantage of that.

pulling out a chocolate bar from the right bag that was filled with food, mostly filled with instant noodles and such. unwrapping the candy, i took a bite out of it. thats when i heard the crowd. thats when i met him.

my red hues shifed to the crowd across the street. i was curious. well with me being naturally curious, i was stupid enough to make my way over. i was kind of surprised that the people let me move to the front so easily. not like back at home where you have to fight your way through the crowd.

what i saw was definitly strange. stranger then the things that went on with my brother back at home. and i swear he did some pretty fucked up things.

there was a blonde guy who was very pissed off. what caught me off guard was that he could lift a vending machine as if it was a feather. that, was pure amusement to me. as he threw the machine, my eyes trailed to the target and that when i nearly choked on my chocolate. the target was none other then my younger brother, izaya orihara.

now i could go into this long story on how he ruinded most of my life, let alone childhood, but i'll save that for another time. what was he even doing here in ikebukuro? just when i thought i could escape his presence, he shows up yet again.

i wasn't even paying attention to what was going on until a large black man came out of no where and blocked the blonde's attack. blinking, i noticed that most of the crowd has left after my brother dissapeared around the corner.

it was just me. now standing like an idiot in the middle of the sidewalk watching the blonde. now though, i realized how er- good looking he was. i wasn't really the one to pay attention to looks to get me attracted to someone but damn son. his hair, now all messy and his bartender outfit covered in dirt just didn't help.

luck though, wasn't on my side. he must of felt my eyes burning into him cause just like that, he turned around, glaring at my direction, and stomped over towards me.

i froze. he gave off this vibe that read 'don't mess with this guy'. i couldn't move. my legs just wouldn't work. damn it!

thats when luck changed on me. my phone rang to see it was one of my friends back at home. quickly i answered and made my way (finally) across the street and away from the blonde. after that, i ran pratically all the way home to my apartment.

----------

the next day,  i was at the park. it was peacful for the most part. it wasn't too hot out and there weren't many people around. i figured this would be the good time to relax and take the time to read at the park.

i sat down at one of the park benches and opened up my book. reading was always fun for me. but most of all, i love to read mangas. they had the most interesting story lines and characters. plus, regular novels were always hard for me to finish reading.

even though people were staring at me as they passed by, i continued to read my manga, spice and wolf. it was one of my favorites. i don't really understand why people were giving me such weird looks. maybe it was because there was some nudity in the volume i was reading.

but anyways, i don't really know how this happened but somehow i ended up falling asleep. i guess no one noticed me not flipping the pages or anything. i guess since i was still sitting up, it looked like i was still reading.

thats when i had a real encounter with the blonde guy from yesterday. i have no clue what time it was when i felt something poke my arm. at first i tried to swat whatever it was away. that when i heard a voice call to me. it was gruff but yet soothing.

"oi, lady!"

my eyes snapped open and i jumped at the voice. to my surprize, i saw the blonde a little too close for comfort, in front of me. that's when i realized it was already dark out.

"what time is it?" i asked in a panic. "8:30 in the evening.." the blonde sighed before straighting up again so he was standing up straight.

"uh..thanks for waking me up." i said with a nervous laughter. he just grunted before pulling out a cigerette and lighting it.

"you know, smoking isn't good for your lungs." i commented. he just kind of grunted a response. guess he doesn't care.

i stood up and placed my book back in my mesanger bag and placed it across my shoulder. "ah- i should get going." i said quietly. "but first, what should i call you?" i didn't know what made me ask that but as soon as i said it, i felt my face heat up. way to go kanra.

"shizuo." he simply replied. nodding, i replied with my name. although i left out the last name part. i didn't know why but it felt like the right thing to say.

i started walking off and soon realized i was being followed. i could hear that one extra footstep. quckly stoping to turn around, shizuo bumped right into me. "what the hell?" he hissed. "s-sorry. i didn't know you were following me." again, my face heated up. what was with me and all this blushing. luckly it was dark out.

thats when a thought crossed my mind. why was he even following me. "why are you following me anyways?" i asked with a frown.

"to make sure you get home safe." was all he said before taking a drag of his cigerette. "nani?" i asked tilting my head to the side.

"apparently you're new here. i realized that yesterday. i don't think you know of the gangs around this area."

"you mean the blue squares? i know of them. i can take care of myself.." could i really? i averted my gaze away from him. maybe that wasn't the smartest thing to say. shizuo sighed. "whatever. but i'm still walking you home."
