"Please put away your phone, Miss Casper." says my history teacher, Ms. Edwards.
I slip my phone back into my back pocket. I immediately feel it vibrate with another text from Matt. I'm longing to see what it says, but I have to wait. When Ms. Edwards is facing the whiteboard, I pull out my phone and read the text. My eyes light up when I read it:
"Are you open tomorrow night? There's a new movie coming out I want to take you to."
I'm so happy. I love going on dates with Matt. He always seems to know exactly what I love. And one of my favorite things is a movie where I can hold his hand and cuddle with him while watching. After a minute, I respond:
"Of course. What movie? ☺"
"You'll see. But I promise you'll like it. 😉"
"I trust you..."
"I have to go sry I'll meet you by your locker."
"Okay. Bye."
As Ms. Edwards drones on about whatever happened in 1968 I can't get my mind off Matthew. His green eyes, long chocolate brown hair, and muscular and comforting arms. I need to figure out what's wrong with me. I'll talk to Elizabeth after school today.
Elizabeth is my best friend. She's an athletic girl with wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She's dating Connor, the captain of the varsity soccer team. She's also an expert when it comes to guys.
When class finally ends, I gather my books and binder and head to my locker. After I shove it all in and grab what I need for my next class, theater, I feel myself being hugged from behind. I lean my head back and lightly peck Matt on the lips. I turn around and run my hands up his chest and then wrap them around his neck.
"I'm excited for tomorrow night." I say, "I can't wait to see what movie it is. It better not be a chick flick." I'm only in the mood for chick flicks when I'm sad or have had a bad week.
"It's not. I promise you'll love it."
"Okay."
"And afterwards I'm taking you to dinner too."
"Yay! I'm so excited. Do I need to dress nicely for the dinner?"
"Nah. But I'm still keeping it a surprise."
"Hmph. Fine." I grumble. He takes my hand and walks with me to the theater. I hug him and nuzzle my head into his chest; I know he loves it when I do that.
"I'll see you soon Ellie."
"Bye." I walk into theater, taking a seat next to Elizabeth. The only classes we have together are this class, math, and P.E. But P.E. doesn't really count. I tell her I need to talk to her after class, since this is the last class of the day. She nods her head.
"Let me guess, it's about Matthew?"
"Maybe..." I say, blushing.
"Just admit it to yourself that you love him. I can see you obviously do."
"That's what I want to talk to you about. I'm so confused."
"Okay." The late bell rings, and class starts. Time goes by quickly because this is my favorite part of the day. After class, I walk out with Liz to her locker. We talk about random things while she puts her stuff away and grabs her backpack before we head to my locker. There, I put my stuff away and grab my backpack as well.
I insist on going to Matthew's locker so I can say bye. Liz smirks but says she'll meet me by the front doors. I walk over to Matt's locker, which unfortunately is in a different hallway, and lean against the locker next to his. He's just slinging his backpack over his shoulder.
"Don't you have basketball today?" I ask, wondering why he's not heading to the gym.
"Not today." he responds, "The coach is sick."
"Oh. That sucks."
"Yeah. But oh well. I think the whole team needs the break."
"Probably." He's the captain of the basketball team. I'm the captain of the volleyball team. It's my favorite sport.
"And you don't have volleyball?" he asks.
"Nope. Wednesdays are our only breaks."
"Oh right." I laugh at the way he says that. I don't know why, it's just cute.
"Let's go." I say, taking his hand as we walk to the front doors. When we get outside, I kiss him. He kisses me back, but we both have to go. I release, hugging him.
"Bye Matt. See you tomorrow."
"Bye Ellie." He says, walking away. I walk over to Liz, anticipating what she's going to say.
"Lovebirds." She says, laughing. Exactly what I thought you would say, I think to myself.
"Hey..."
"It's true. You know it." I shake my head as we start walking. Our houses are really close to each others, so we walk home together all the time.
"I just don't know if I love him. I've never actually fallen in love. I'm so confused. I think I love him, but..." I say, gushing to Liz.
"Okay, well... does he make you happy?"
"Yes. Definitely."
"Do you feel like he loves you?"
"Yes."
"Would it hurt if you lost him?"
"Of course. I would die."
"Are you always thinking about him?"
"Yes. I can't stop." I wonder where she's going with this.
"And you're pretty sure you love him?"
"Yeah."
"Well I think you're in love. And it's okay to be in love. It's normal. Just don't let him break your heart. Maybe this will be your once in a lifetime."
"Okay I guess... but it's still so weird and I'm uncertain."
"Well don't be. Don't try to stop your feelings. It's okay to love Matthew Evans."
"Alright. Thank you so much. We have a date tomorrow night."
"Where are you going?"
"He's taking me to a movie and then dinner. But he won't tell me what movie or where we're going. But he promised me I'll love it."
"Yay!" Liz exclaims, "Can I help you get ready?"
"Well yeah, I need someone to make sure I don't look like crap!"
"Ellie Evans. I like it."
"Oh shut up, Liz." Liz and I reach the block where we separate. Saying goodbye, I turn to the right while she turns to the left. I spend the rest of my time thinking about Matthew, and how I think I'm in love with him.
