" ...I know mum! I'll take care! I promise! Now I should hang up, the teacher is calling. Bye! Love you!"
Ending the call, Divya ran to her group in the airport. She, along with her nineteen classmates were on an educational trip to France.
Apparently, their University's head received an offer from one of France's travel organizations, for a promotional free trip for students.
And of course, he would be a fool to pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity. So after selecting the best 20 students from his University's language department, with few teachers, he set off to France, with a full holiday mood. They were just stopping by to Venice.
After giving a small introduction, and explaining rules and regulations, the group set off to a hotel they booked for their stay.
Divya, being an enthusiastic travel bug, was already pretty excited for her first international trip, even though it was for "educational purposes".
Entering in their hotel lobby, and checking in with the reception, their teacher addressed the students in a tired voice.
" Ok children. I don't want any disturbances on your first day in France, so please BEHAVE!" Mr. Jha emphasized his point by glaring at two boys who were totally ignoring him, chatting away their plans for the 'PERFECT HOLIDAY'.
After all that, Divya dragged her roommate/friend Neha to their assigned room. They were having the day off because of the extremely long flight. Everyone was eager to finally have the well deserved rest and stretch to prepare their limbs for the coming travel.
" What's the rush?!" Neha asked, huffing and trying to keep up with the energy ball.
" Oh come on! Aren't you excited!! We are in a foreign country!! We should try everything we can until we are restricted to visiting just a few places!! She ranted enthusiastically.
" Ok ... calm down! Your back isn't killing you?!" Neha whined.
" It is! But... I ... I want to-" Divya stopped midway realizing that she was the receiver of one of the LOOKS.
" Fine... We will rest, have lunch here, but promise me we will go out for dessert, please please please!!!" Divya pouted, giving Neha her best puppy dog look, using her small height and large doe eyes to advantage.
Of course Neha has to melt to that look, so she just smiled softly, giving a nod of affirmation and then receiving a bone crushing hug and strings of thank yous from Divya.
***After a hearty lunch and afternoon nap, both Divya and Neha got dressed to find a small dessert shop anywhere nearby.
Neha was dressed in a white tee and black jeans. Her dark hair was free of confines. Whereas Divya went for a cuter look with a red knee length summer dress and a blue denim jacket and sandals. A red flower hairpin adorned the side of her head.
Both of them bagged two of their classmates, Raghav and Vineet to come with them. The guys didn't care much because they also wanted to go out.
After fifteen minutes of walking and inspecting the place with the help of an online map, they stumbled into a small cozy cafe. There was 'Cafe et Boulangerie' written on glass panels. With a look confirmation from everyone, they decided to try the place out. Planned travelling will be the thing from tomorrow.
The door opened with a small jingle. When they stepped in, they were wrapped in the warm and sweet fragrance of bread and baking. It made their mouths water.
The place was crowded with tourists from different places. They squeezed through the tables to find a perfect spot at the corner of the cafe. A four-seater.
They immediately took the seat and sat down, inhaling the smell of those freshly baked goods. They could see that the glass containers below the counter held all sorts of breads, buns and cakes (not all).
Raghav noticed a menu kept at the center of the table where the tissues were. He passed it to others one by one, who after discussion, chose what they wanted to have.
"So two cinnamon rolls, chocolate macaroons and one lemon tea. Anything else?" Vineet stood up from his seat, confirming everything that they decided to order.
"And where are you going?" Raghav asked.
"To put our orders up at the counter. What else?"
" Did you really think I'll let you go alone? No way!"
"You can't come dude, the line is big." Which it was.
Both of them started to bicker, whispering and fighting about who will stand in the line and something that suspiciously sounded " I'm not letting you be the first to flirt with a foreign girl."Neha rolled her eyes at their pointless banter, when her eyes wandered to catch something that made both the guys shut up.
" Look at those slowpokes, I think it's not the time for either of you to work your charms." She yawned, pointing at Divya who was already standing in the queue. Both the guys slumped down on their seats, taking out their phones and busying themselves with it.
'Heh...Children..' she mused, moving her eyes to watch Divya.
***Divya always wanted to try out new things. And sweet breads and pastries were no exception. She waited for her turn. When it came she greeted the woman on the counter with a bright smile and cheery 'bonjour'.
With a little small talk, she placed her order and received her receipt.
Humming a soft tune under her breath, she made her way to her friends, when a voice stopped her dead in her tracks.
"Divya? Is that you?!" A deep voice questioned.
She couldn't believe it. After all these years!!With wide eyes she turned to the direction from where the voice came from. Her eyes clashed with a lighter shade of brown ones, as her lips formed the name.
"Vijay.." She breathed out.
