Kid finished putting his toy car together as I wondered how he had so many materials on his coat pockets. He held the remote and nodded to me putting the car on the ground. I pushed the doors open wide and kid pressed a button on the remote, sending the car into full throttle.
As soon as it was a quarter of the way out, there was a squawk as the bird dove for it and Kid grabbed my wrist, refusing to hold my hand, and we sprinted across the gym. I heard the flapping of wings behind us and grabbed Kid's collar, pushing him to the ground as the birds massive talons grazed my back. We were up and running again and I glanced behind. The toy car was in pieces, scattered across the gym floor.
Kid stopped and shoved a ball into my hands before grabbing two others. The bird was swooping down on us again and Kid threw the balls, the first hit the birds wing, and the second was caught, and popped, on the parrots beak. The bird swerved, slamming into the floor as it was blinded.
Kid grabbed two more balls and we started running back. I felt useless, I couldn't even use my powers. Kid spun and threw one of the balls, catching the birds shoulder and sending it spinning.
"Faster!" He huffed shoving me on. We were almost at the door when the bird caught up to us, not flying anymore. It blocked the door way squawking angrily.
"What now?" I whispered.
"Give me a second," Kid grunted. The parrot took a step forwards.
"We don't have a second!" I replied in kind.
"Shut up and let me think," I looked around and saw the birds nest, hidden in the corner of the room with a baby bird tweeting in it.
"Kid, can you hit that nest?" I asked. He glanced at it then nodded.
"Leave it to me," Kid turned his body, the bird drawing closer. His arm went back and then whipped forwards, releasing the ball and sending it gliding through the air. It slammed into the nest and the parrot screeched flying to the nest to check on it's chicks.
We dove through the door and fell on the ground. I kicked the door shut and grinned. I lay down and started to laugh. Kid was chuckling too and I turned to him. We locked eyes and Kid's smile dropped like a stone and he stood up.
"Come on, let's go get the next thing," he muttered and I sighed. Holding the basket ball under my arm I followed him.
The Narrow Hall wasn't as narrow as you'd think. In fact, it was quite wide. It was the displays, benches and people that made it narrow. It appeared to have once been a dorm block, but the rooms had been renovated and turned into stores. Kid led me to a run down looking room. Above the door was a sign 'Shakky's Rip-Off Bar'.
"Come on," Kid pulled me in. A beautiful woman was standing above a bleeding man.
"Ah, Eustass give me a minute," she said.
"Take your time," Kid said and we sat down at a table. The woman threatened the man a little, and from what I caught from it, the man had refused to pay the prices.
"How have you been? Is this your girlfriend?" The woman asked.
"No Shakky, she's not," Kid grumbled, his cheeks tainted red.
"Mmhmm, so who are you dear?" Shakky turned to me.
"Um, I'm Akira,"
"Oh, I've heard of you, made quite a name for yourself haven't you," Shakky smiled. She was very beautiful.
"Seems everyone has," I replied.
"Yes, Luffy's told me a bit about you and Ace wouldn't shut up," I smiled, honoured that they felt the need to tell her about me.
"Anyway," Kid interrupted. "We need to borrow a bottle of alcohol."
"Oh really?" Shakky asked cocking an eyebrow.
"Yes, we're doing a treasure hunt for class and one of the items is a bottle of Shakky's Rip-Off alcohol, " Kid explained.
"Well then, how about we do an exchange," Shakky suggested. "You will deliver this letter to Rayleigh and in return I will give you a bottle of bourbon, deal?"
"Fine, where's Rayleigh?" Kid grumbled.
"Haven't a clue," Shakky replied. I felt Kid clench his fists.
"Where is he most likely to be?" I asked quickly. Shakky smiled at me.
"Gambling," she told me. "Take care, Akira, I hope to see you soon."
Shakky laid a letter down on the table and walked away.
"Come on Kid, might as well start searching. Where are the gambling places?" I picked up the letter and shoved it in my pocket. Kid grumbled something about annoying old ladies and we made our way through the crowd.
Not long later we'd been to two different gambling spots and were walking into a third one. It was behind a stationary store. As we walked through I saw a purple ink pen on the wall.
"Kid," I whispered and pointed to it. He glanced around and saw a camera in the corner.
"Come on," he mumbled and stood in the way of the camera. "Take one, we can return it later."
"What no!" I turned to face him, offended.
"Oh please, it's not like your gonna get in much trouble, another detention at most," Kid rolled his eyes. "Now take it, you owe me."
"I owe you? For what?" I took a step back.
"Just take it already, we're wasting time," Kid ordered. I gave up and nicked the pen, shoving it in my pocket. "Good, now come on, let's check this store for Rayleigh."
We slipped into the back where a small room was. Inside four people sat at a table laughing and smack talking each other.
"Rayleigh," Kid called and an elderly man looked up.
"Eustass Kid, and... Sorry who are you?" He asked.
"Akira," I answered instantly. A frown swept over my face as I said it. I wasn't going to tell him. Why did I?
"Stop that," Kid grunted.
"Stop what?" Rayleigh laughed.
"We have a letter here for you, from Shakky," Kid changed the subject quickly.
"Ah, thank you, sorry boys, I've got to go," Rayleigh stood up. I rustled around my pocket and pulled out the letter, handing it over to him. "Thank you dear. And here, proof you delivered it."
Rayleigh handed me his business card, 'Rayleigh Coating and Auto Repairs.'
"Thanks," I replied and I led the way out. We quickly made our way back to Shakky's.
"Hmm, that was fast," Shakky smiled and took the card off us. "Here you go."
She handed Kid a bottle of bourbon and told us to come back sometime.
"That three down, four to go," Kid grinned then glanced at me. He scowled and turned away. I sighed and pulled the list out again. Next up, a sale flier. Easy enough.
