Responsibility for the Power

Skeleton cookies

I wrote this part on Halloween and felt the need to add the skeleton bit. Enjoy~

When the meeting with Spider-Man started, they were expecting the entire cluster, not only Spider-Man and one other member asleep on his back. It was a strange sight to them. Arachnid moves slightly in his sleep but otherwise doesn't do anything.

Fury didn't bother explaining why one was asleep and was about to go right into it when Natasha interrupted and asked what was on everybody's minds.

"Hey spidey, why is Kid asleep on your back?" Spider-Man looked at her and then gave a quick glance at Kid who was clinging to him with all the strength he could while asleep.

"Had a run in with Kraven today. Guy still wants one of us spiders either as living trophies or dead ones. Kid got hit with a dart so he's gonna be out for a while." Spider-Man explains. Widow nods, accepting the answer.

"Okay people." Stark starts to say before the meeting can continue. "Let's get this over with, unless you have forgotten that I also have a company to run?"

"We'll be quick." Spider-Man quipped. "I gotta make sure kid gets home alright after this. It's always disorienting after one of those darts. Makes it hard to swing." It was said so casually that this reaction to darts must be a pretty common occurrence. It was kind of alarming.

With that they continue on with the meeting. They discuss what will happen during the weeks they are together. Which hero is teamed up with which arachnid. The patrols will rotate this.
   Throughout the meeting Kid had shifted from his position on Spider-Man and is kind of in a half off/on state where he has decided to dangle, groaning and slightly muttering. Natasha would never admit it aloud but she thought this was adorable. While Thor and Hulk did not voice these thoughts, they shared a look to each other that meant they also thought this.

  The avengers will join nightly patrols and if time permits it a few daytime patrols. There aren't a lot of those though, so when it happens it will be random. By the end of this meeting everything was shorted out and everybody could get on with their day.

As Spider-Man was leaving with Fury, Kid arachnid had woken up. He stretched and yawned. He  would have fallen if Peter wasn't holding him. He was still very tired and slumped back over. Nick decided he needed to wake up more. He walked over and gave Miles a cookie. "Here Kid." He walked away when miles accepted it and continued onwards. Before he attempted to eat it Miles decided to speak.

"On Halloween, we dress like skeletons, but in reality, the skeletons dress like us." Miles said in a slight delirious voice. Spider-Man voiced his own thoughts as he continued walking. "I worry about you sometimes ." Miles didn't realize that his mask was on. When he made to bite the cookie, it broke and fell to the ground. Spider-Man stopped moving and looked at miles. Miles just looked at the broken cookie on the floor. The avengers stared at them.

Then, Miles started to cry. He just sobbed into Spider-Man's shoulder as he rubbed his back and shushed him. Nick, who had stopped when he heard the cookie fall, sighed and walked back to them. He flipped up the bottom half of mile's mask and gave him another cookie. The response was instant and miles was a very happy spider. They continued on and this time did not stop as they made their way to the jet with Fury. "Wheeee!" .... yea the dart must have had more stuff in it because miles was acting weirder then when usually hit with it. "Spooky scary skeletons send shivers, down your spine~ sticks and stones dadadada~" Kid sang while eating his cookie. When in the elevator going up miles immediately went back to sleep on his perch on Spider-Man and before the doors closed the avengers could see Fury rubbing the back of Kid's head with his hand.

   That was weird. Fury, affection? Kid? Is what most of them were thinking, except those in the know. Which was only two. Of course, only one of them has seen the affection from Fury before, so wasn't as surprised as to the other who had only heard of it happening once.

"Well," Cap started. "That went well." "Yea, I gotta get to work on my suits. I don't really want to think about what I just witnessed." Tony replied.

Later in another location......

"WAIT I DID WHAT?!?!?"
