Silence. Daniel had been awfully quiet for a while. "So... I'll be a father within five months and you're not a vampire?" Daniel had asked Layla everything after he had calmed down. She simply nodded. "Yeah I'm a human... unfortunately. Although I'm not sure if I'm fully human. Like you've said... I'm very similar to your kind. I just... don't drink blood. I can resist sunlight although my eyes aren't used to it anymore and my sleeping schedule is horrible for a human." She usually slept during the day and was awake at night, just like the vampires. Daniel slowly nodded.
"If you're related to a vampire then it must be a noble. Your hair colour is extremely rare, even when it comes to my kind." Said Daniel. Vampires could sire a child. It was more difficult for them than for a human but it was certainly possible. Half breeds were rare but that was because vampires stood above humans. "I might be able to help you find him but I can't promise anything."
"You would do that for me?" She was surprised by this. Daniel simply nodded.
"We're going to be family Layla. These are the things that I do for family. But what kind of job did your mother have that she could meet a noble?" Well... this was becoming awkward.
"She was a blood lady. She was very wanted. I.... did the same job as her... well until..." She placed her hand on her swollen belly. "I don't do it anymore. I'm actually jobless now."
"You're going to move in with me." That didn't even sound like a question but more like a command.
"Are you sure that you want that?"
"Layla look around. This apartment is already small for one person, let alone for someone with a baby. I can't have my child living here. It will be easier for the both of us if you stay at the palace. You can learn all you need to know about the court. You'll have access to the best doctors. You'll get a maid to help you and I can keep an eye on you. That child is a royal. Don't underestimate that." Layla swallowed. Right. My child would become one of the most powerful people of this country... "Alright... but I'll need someone to help me with moving. I can't pack all my stuff on my own. I'm not allowed to carry heavy things."
"That's fine. I can send someone."
"But what about us? What are you going to tell people when they ask why I'm staying at the palace? What should I say?"
"The truth. That you're carrying my child."
"You're not ashamed of it?"
"Why should I? It's my child. I'm the prince. People will always have an opinion." He answered. He made it sound surprisingly simple.
"That's true... but..." No she shouldn't ask this.
"But what?" Daniel asked.
"How will things be between us? Like do you want me to marry you or...?" Daniel stayed quiet for a moment.
"We will have to figure it out together. I don't want to force you into a relationship. Look this is currently a mess for the both of us. We can decide later if we will get married or not. I do know that I don't want a loveless marriage. That won't do us any good. I want you to be happy. You'll be stuck with me anyway but I want you to be able to decide who you'll marry." Layla simply nodded and felt like crying. Stupid hormones.
"Alright then. I'll move to the palace." She bit on her lip as I saw him looking at her belly.
"Do you want to touch it?" She asked him.
"What?" He was caught off guard.
"If you want to touch my belly."
"Are you sure about that? It's very personal." Layla nodded.
"I am. It's your child. If someone is allowed to touch my belly the. It's you." She said. She took his hand and placed it on her belly. He was a bit tense at first but She saw a smile appearing on his face.
"Our child..." He said softly.
"Yes... our child." She said back. It was finally starting to feel real.
