The Plan

The next morning I was eating breakfast with the whole family.  Edward, Anne, Ben and Kelly stayed last night, as it was very late for them to go home after the dinner party. While we ate breakfast we were talking about the dinner party.

"I enjoyed that dinner party last night," said Mr Stowner "I thought the food was lovely and it was nice to see Maria and Alfred again. Do you think so too my dear?" "Oh yes," said Mrs Stowner "not only was the food perfect, but the table setting was perfect too. The silver and china were both sparkly and clean. The Crewe family did throw a wonderful dinner party". "I did like meeting Mrs Crewe and her son Alfred Crewe," said Anne "but I didn't like Mr Crewe or Richard Crewe". "Neither did I," said Kelly "they looked cold to me". "I think the Werec family, that we met last night, looked far colder than them," said Ben "as a lawyer I have seen many different faces of people. And the faces of the Werec family did show signs that they cannot be trusted". "I didn't like them either," said Mr Stowner "and if John doesn't see their true colours. Well then he is a fool and that will be his downfall, mark my words".

Jimmy and I exchanged a quick nod with each other; that meant we had to gather information about the Werec family as soon as possible, before they did anything bad.

"Oh, if you don't mind Mother," I said "last night Jimmy and I invited Alfred to come here at eleven if that's alright".

"That is fine Amelia," Mrs Stowner said "you are always welcome to invite friends here". Jimmy and I didn't tell Mr or Mrs Stowner what we were going to do; we decided to wait till Alfred got here first.

After breakfast was finished Edward, Anne, Ben and Kelly went home. Ben had to get back to work at the law offices and get paper work done. Edward and Anne needed to get back to the hospital to look after their patients.

Jimmy went out too; he said that he was going to go to the docks to check about boat departures. I knew why he was going to do that. Since Alfred told us last night that the Werec family lived in France, Jimmy planned to go to the docks and see if any ships were going to France today.

Soon it was eleven o'clock and Alfred arrived right on time. As Jimmy wasn't back from the docks yet, Alfred and I took a walk in the garden together to wait for him.

"As soon as Jimmy gets back from the docks, we can put our plan into action" I said. "I thank you and Jimmy for helping me with this Amelia" Alfred said. "Ah don't mention it," I replied "I must say this though; when I saw the Werec family, the looks on their faces made me shudder. Even Ben said they are the type of people you cannot trust". "I don't like them or trust them either," said Alfred "but my father and brother do. I tried talking to them after the Werec family left last night. But when I told them about the rumours and about how I felt, they told me I was just talking nonsense and wouldn't listen to any more of what I also wanted to say. I have always thought that my father and brother were the stubborn type, but now I think of them as fools". It seemed to me that Mr Stowner was right; Mr Crewe didn't see the Werec family's true colours.

At that moment Jimmy arrived back from the docks. Alfred and I ran over to him for information. "What news Jimmy?" I asked. "Well," said Jimmy "the good news is there is a ship that's going to France today, a cargo ship though. The better news is I spoke with the captain and he said he will take us to France too". Alfred and I were delighted with the news. "When does it leave?" asked Alfred. "The captain said that his ship had to leave at four this afternoon, or it will miss the tide" Jimmy said. "Then we better leave for the docks at three," I said "that way we will arrive in plenty of time". Jimmy and Alfred agreed with that.

After all the talking we went inside to tell Mr and Mrs Stowner about our plan. When we told them what we were going to do Mrs Stowner spoke up; "So you three insist on going to France to find about the real truth of the Werec family?" she asked. Mrs Stowner was surprised about our plan. "I know this all sounds dangerous mother," Jimmy said "but after our meeting of the Werec family last night; Alfred, Amelia and I cannot ignore our feelings". "If you wish to blame me for putting Amelia and Jimmy in my affair you may", said Alfred "but I do need their help to find out about the Werec's true colours". "You three should go," Mr Stowner said "since John and Richard Crewe refuse to believe the rumours of the Werec family, giving them evidence of the Werec family will set them straight". "I agree with that as well," Mrs Stowner said "but since Amelia is going as well, you must take good care of her Jimmy". "I promise you Mrs Stowner," Alfred said "Amelia, Jimmy and I will come home safely".

Mr Stowner got out of his chair and pulled out a map from a cupboard. "This is a map of France," he said "when I was your age I visited France with my father. So this is what you three must do. The ship will take you to Calais in France. In Calais you can get a train to Paris, there you can talk to the police and get rested for the night there. Then when tomorrow comes you can set off from Paris to where the Werec family's home is". We agreed to that. "Does your family know what you are doing Alfred?" asked Mrs Stowner. "Don't worry Ma'am," said Alfred "I lied to my father saying I would be staying at mother's home for a week. And I told my mother what I was doing and I have her permission to do so".

Three o'clock came very quickly and Jimmy, Alfred and I set off for the docks immediately. We arrived just before the cargo ship was getting ready to set off. We thanked the captain for letting us board the ship. "No problem at all," he said "happy to be a service to any sailor and his family and friends anytime". Soon the ship was on its way to France. I felt nervous because this was my first time being far away from home. But this was for a good cause to know the real truth about the Werec family. For Jimmy, Alfred and I, our adventure had now started.
