CHAPTER 1: UNEDITED

My feet slammed against the ground as I urged myself to run faster, legs shaking and pain pounding in my chest as the cold air stung at my lungs. I tried my hardest to dodge the ruins and broken walls strewn over the castle grounds, not wanting to fall in my haste. I can make it, I will make it, I won't be too late. I told myself, trying to run as fast as I possibly could. My feet almost flew out from under me as I skidded around the corner. My eyes widening as I scanned the scene in front of me, and I pushed my way through the crowd.

Everyone was gathered, watching intensely as a powerful arm was raised and a wicked smile was stretched.

"Noo!" I screamed, my voice raw from fear and running. Heads turned to face me, but I was only interested in him, our eyes met, and though his were filled with fear and regret, I could still see the love and admiration within them. He shook his head slightly, his eyes welled, and he mouthed 'I'm sorry'.

The dangerously powerful man simply laughed before his mouth began to form the most unforgivable words. My legs pushed me forwards as I tried to beat his words and get there in time.

"Elizabeth, NO!"

I jumped in my bed as I woke, a fine layer of sweat on my forehead and my heart pounding as I stared at my wall, the events still playing in my head. Sitting up I pushed my hair away from my face as I took deep breaths to try and slow down my heart rate. No matter how many times I experienced this dream, I am always left in the same shocked state.

I first had the dream around 6 months ago, though it was not of the same detail, the events were blurred as if it was a movie not shot in focus. After the first time I had my dream it wasn't until a month later when I experienced it again, the details clearer, more real. They slowly became more frequent and more detailed until I was having the dream almost every night. I never truly understand what's happening though. I know I want to save someone, a boy, a boy I have never seen before and a boy I do not know the name of. I just know that, in the dream, I am in love with him and would do anything to save him.

Three knocks against my bedroom door pull me from the thoughts in my mind, as the door slowly opens, and Dad's head appears. A cheeky smile creeps onto his face when he sees I'm awake and he gives his eyebrows a slight wiggle.

"Time to get up, you might be the birthday girl, but you've still got school." He teases before closing my door and disappearing when I give him a tired smile in response. I pull my blanket from my body and instantly feel cold. Despite being October my Mum refuses to turn on the heating until November at the earliest, some kind of desperate attempt to save money on bills claiming we have dressing gowns for a reason. With a slight shiver I get out of bed and get ready for school, pulling on my fashion disaster of a uniform before heading downstairs to see my family.

Walking down the stairs the smells of waffles hangs in the area, a birthday tradition, and I can hear my parent's whispers from behind the ajar kitchen door. I push it open and I'm suddenly enclosed in my mother's arms as she sings 'happy birthday' in a goofy voice.

"Look how big you are!" She whines stroking my hair, and I roll my eyes,

"I haven't grown a foot since yesterday mum." I say knowingly, sitting down at the kitchen table and she tuts in annoyance going back over to the stove.

"Oh, you know what I mean Lizzy!"

My dad comes and places a waffle in front of me and my stomach gurgles at the sight, I immediately dig in causing my dad to chuckle. "You haven't even put any toppings on it let." He laughs and I swallow the food in my mouth.
