Also, this is actually mostly cannon. DS!Dream and DS!Nightmare aren't biological brothers but they consider each other as brothers.

Nightmare and Dream's dad met each other and brought their sons. This is where Nightmare and Dream's relationship started. Nightmare walked up to a skeleton slightly shorter than him. The skeleton was Dream and he was very shy. As the two men left Nightmare and Dream to play, Nightmare said, "Hello! I'm Nightmare! What's your name?" Dream stayed silent. Nightmare decided to bring Dream into his favorite spot in the forest. "Let's go into the forest!" Nightmare exclaimed.

"N-No!!!" Dream said defensively. "What if we get lost in there?!"

"I know the way back even at night time!" Nightmare said. "Come on!" Nightmare dragged Dream into the forest to a beautiful pond.

There were a lot of trees on the shore and one was hanging right above the water. The pond reflected the whole scenery clearly. Dream loved the location and sat down on the tree above the water.

Dream and Nightmare stayed silent for a moment. Finally, Dream said, "My name is Dream. I love nature and it's sounds. It's very calming don't you think?"

"Yeah," Nightmare replied. "What's your favorite sound? Mine is wolves howling."

"I'm actually scared of wolves," Dream said while shuddering. "But I'm not afraid of their sounds. I prefer birds chirping though." Silence came back. After a few minutes, Dream asked, "Hey Nightmare? Promise that we'd be friends no matter what?"

"Promise!" Nightmare replied.

Dream walked into the orphan home and saw all the happy children there. "DREAM!!!" the toddlers screamed while running towards him.

Dream hugged all the kids and said, "I'm here to tell you all another story!"

"Yay!" the kids said while jumping up and down.

They all settled into the reading room. Dream was looking through the books and saw that there weren't any interesting books he could tell the kids. They've heard all the books. "What story am I going to tell them?" Dream asked himself. He had an idea seconds after and walked towards the kids. He checked outside to make sure that no one was listening. "I'm going to tell you a story that doesn't come from a book. It's about me and my brother. Don't tell anyone okay?" Dream said.

"Okay!" The kids said in union.

"Long time ago, there were two friends," Dream started. "They were raised in the temple where the Tree of Feelings are at. They consider each other as brothers. They loved each other very much and loved each other's company. One day, the priest that protects the tree passed away. Our fathers decided to steal from the tree. It backfired and they were killed. As punishment, me and my brother got kidnapped and became the new guardians of the tree. We made a lot of memories and promises. One day, I broke our promises and ate 998 apples from the tree, leaving my brother 2 apples. That is how I got my wings. Eating the apples made me see things from a different point of view and I thought that my job was to erase all negativity in the world. A few years later I found out that I was mistaken. My job was to keep positive citizens positive and make negative ones positive. However, I was too late and had to keep trying to kill my brother even if it hurts me."

All the children were very understanding about all of this. They hugged Dream even if he didn't ask for it. Dream decided to lighten the mood with games. After they finished playing, Dream had to leave. The kids said their goodbyes and went back to playing.

As Dream went into his office, he saw something on his desk. It wasn't paper at all. It wasn't his work. He walked over to it and saw a necklace. It's chain was gold and it's pendant was shaped like a black tear but the smaller part was curved and a white circle engraved in the middle. Dream then saw another memory of him and Nightmare.

"Hi Nightmare," Dream said quietly while walking towards Nightmare and joining him to sit on a tree branch. "How are you doing?" Nightmare didn't say a word. Tears started to roll down his cheeks. Dream stayed silent for a while. He then sighed and said, "Hey, at least we still have each other right?"

Nightmare stayed silent for a while and finally said, "Why did he have to steal from the tree?" Dream hesitated. He hugged Nightmare and let him cry on his shoulder.

"Our dads might be gone," Dream started. "but we're still together." Nightmares stared at the lake below them. Dream then took out two necklaces and handed Nightmare one. It's chain was silver and it's pendant was shaped like a white tear but the smaller part was curved and a black circle engraved in the middle. "Here, take this. This symbolises that we are going to stick together no matter what." Nightmare took the necklace and placed it around his neck.

"Promise?" Nightmare asked. Dream nodded and Nightmare smiled.

"I broke our promise..." Dream muttered to himself. "I'm sorry Nightmare."
