George arrives at the hospital and meets up with the woman, then fills them in on the current investigation:
"How's Jack?" George asked. "He made it through surgery. He's alive, but in a medically induced coma." Ann replied. "The good news is that they were able to cure his glaucoma problem." "What's the bad news?" George asked. "He's still in a coma, and even if he wakes up, he may not remember much of anything." Lisa replied sadly. "He's a fighter. He'll get through this." George replied. "I need to know. Did they pull any slugs out of Jack during surgery?" "They pulled two bullets out. They don't look the same though." Lisa replied. "I've gotta get them over to the lab and analyze them. Then Adam and I have to figure out if we got a break in the case or not." George stated. "Just be careful." Ann said. "I will." George replied.
George speeds over back to the lab. On the way, he flashes back to when he and Jack first met, and he was recruited by him for C.S.I.:
Six Years ago....
George has just graduated from the police academy as a detective 2nd grade. An unfamiliar person walks up to him. "Congratulations. Have you given any thought to your future?" He says. "Thought? What are you talking about?" George asked. "I mean, what you're going to do now that you're graduated from the academy?" the anonymous person asks. "I don't know. I might join traffic or be a patrol cop." George replied. "Forget all that stuff kid; I look at you and I see a guy who's not only got talent, but the smarts, instincts, and brains for the kind of work that I do. I see a guy who's got the drive to be a good cop, but where are you really going with it?" the anonymous person replied. "OK, let's just cut the crap. My career is well known to me. What's the point, you're trying to make?" George said, getting a bit irritated. "OK, bottom line is I want you for my team. If you like long hours, working in the trenches, investigating evidence and solving crimes, this unit is for you." the person replied. "I got no problem with that." George replied. "OK. Tomorrow morning, take the elevator to the 5th floor and look for the door with my name on it." the person replied. "Will do. What is your name though?" George asked. "Sergeant Jack Morgan. I'm the head of the Los Angeles P.D. C.S.I." "Nice to meet you. I'm George Reynolds." George said shaking Jack's hand. "Welcome to C.S.I. kid." Jack replied.
George arrives at the lab and regroups with Adam:
"Doctors pulled out two different slugs from Jack." George said. "Get these over to ballistics and see what they can find out." "Did you get any prints off of the bullets we found in our victim Jordan Crawford? "I couldn't get prints off those armor piercing .57 magnum bullets, but I did get something off those .30-80. auto caliber rounds. They came from an assault rifle. Get this, that rifle was involved in a previous case; We had it bagged in evidence." Adam stated. "Let's go get it then." George said. "Can't do that." Adam replied. "Why not?" George asked. "It's already been destroyed." Adam replied. "Damn. Did you check with security?" George asked. "They told me that nobody's been in and out of the evidence room all day except the maintenance manager." Adam explained. "We need to have a chat with him." George stated. "We also should have a look at the surveillance footage as well." Adam said. "First thing's first, let's see if we can get any prints out of the bullets they pulled out of Jack, then we'll make our next move." George stated. "Got it." Adam replied.
So Adam and George are still on the case, but are they any closer to finding Jack's shooter?
In the next chapter, Amanda and Ann reminisce about how Jack recruited them for C.S.I.
