The P.O.E. & a Gateway in the Basement

Chapter Thirteen

Britney is sitting quietly in Brett's backseat, feeling accomplished shooting an arrow through the back tire of Balthazar's car traveling at highway speeds means only one obvious solution: that the crossbow that Rebecca gave to her works for her more than a sword or a gun.

"So how does this priest that we are going to talk to know my mother?" Britney's eyes glaze as she never in her whole life has been close into knowing why her mother left. There are so many questions that she wants answered.

"He used to be in charge of all of our Top Secret missions. He was one of our best until the mission that he gave your mother and Jacob's father. Something about that mission freaked him out. After their demise he went into hiding. Nobody knows why neither. I only found out where he is hiding only a couple of weeks ago."

"So he should have some answers for me. Knowing that he used to know my mother personally intrigues my curiosity."

"You are not the only person that has questions, Britney. I am positive that I have more valuable questions than you do. I do realize that she is your mother. But she was working on a Top Secret mission that I don't know anything about. So once we get there I hope that you don't mind if I ask my questions first?" The headmaster gazes into Britney's eyes and realizes that she believes that what she has to ask is more important than his questions.

"No... I don't mind at all." She lies. Not wanting to admit that she has more rights on this subject than he does. If she actually spoke her mind, she probably would be out-voted anyways. So she thinks it is best to lie at this moment seeing that she is the new person in this group.

"I'm glad we got that all worked out because we are here." Brett parks the car and turns off the engine. All four of them get out of their seats and get out of the dented car. Once outside all of them get a good, relaxing stretch. Then, they all follow the headmaster inside the church. After the main double doors close all by themselves, they all realize that the church is completely empty.

"Let's go downstairs. Everybody is probably down there waiting for our arrival." The headmaster leads the way to the door that only priests and nuns can enter. Once inside they are overwhelmed with priests, nuns & civilians.

"I need to speak with your high priest!" The headmaster has to yell since it is so overwhelmingly noisy inside with all the conversations that are going on around them at the same time. Nobody hears the headmaster's voice as it echoes throughout the entire small room. A very small man walks up to the headmaster. He stretches his hand out in greetings. The headmaster acknowledges his gesture and shakes it.

"Hello, sir. I am the very knowledgeable midget. Whatever you need I will bring to you. Whatever you want to know I probably know."

"I highly doubt that. Just point me in the direction of where I might be able to find the high priest of this church." The headmaster explains. He looks upon the very short civilian and figures that if the high priest tells him everything; what is the sense of having a Top Secret organization with classified missions.

"He is the chubby man sitting at the far end table at the end of the room. You can't miss him because he is probably the person doing all of the talking. But if you do he probably won't miss you, headmaster. He has been waiting for you to arrive for some time now." The midget is lucky that he has a loud voice otherwise they would not be able to know that he is even there... he stands to about their kneecaps... maybe their waistlines.

"Thank you for your help." The headmaster moves on and walks through the room until he sees a bald, chubby white guy. He vaguely looks like Friar Tuck from that story Robin Hood. The small guy is right about one thing and that is the high priest is the person that is the most overly talkative.
