Chapter Ten

After I got up the stairs, I practically sprinted to my room. I was so embarrassed. What must be running through Blake's and Truman's minds? Hopefully it would blow over and they wouldn't hold it against me. Somehow, I just didn't see that happening.  Who was it that said first impressions make lasting impressions? There was nothing I could do about it now, except maybe kill the twins.

I also needed to not think about how my heart skipped a beat when I looked at Blake. I had had enough boy drama in my life to understand what a bad idea it'd be to like one of the brothers. Plus, there was a secret part of me that felt guilty for feeling something. I just screwed up lives when feelings got involved and I wouldn't do that to William.

After getting dressed, I headed over to Wil's room. I needed to get the twins back. While they had no way of knowing that their brother's would come home early, they should've realized that making a girl run around the house practically naked was a little too much.

Maybe I'd get Hannah in on this as well.

After opening the door, I saw that he wasn't in the room. I decided to go check downstairs. While heading to the office that Wil liked to hang out in, I overheard voices in the tv room.

"--think she really is just a girl he took in? I wonder if she's doing him any extra favors. Dad sure does like to get his fill of women nowadays."

I halted. Did he just imply what I think he did? Oh hell no.

"Now hold on, I remember mom and dad talking about her parents. I don't think dad would do that, even if he does sleep with anything that walks. Besides he prefers blondes."

I realized three things very quickly. 1) I recognized that as Blake's voice. He was trying to stand up for me. 2) That meant Truman was the pig.  3) William slept around? Gross. I didn't need to know that.

"You really think that that hot piece of ass, who apparently looks just like his best friend that he loves so dearly, isn't going to catch his eye? I'd bang her too but I won't touch dad's sloppy seconds."

That was it. I was not going to be treated that way. I wouldn't let Wil see it either. This boy needed to be set straight. I leaned on the door frame and just listened to what else he had to say about me. Apparently naked in a towel really did leave a bad impression.

Within seconds of entering the room, Blake noticed me. He grimaced. "Kate."

Truman stopped abruptly and turned around to face me.

"Please continue Truman. I love hearing all about how I'm your dad's new whore."

He didn't say anything.

"Nothing else to say? Great, I guess it's my turn." I walked slowly over to him and slowly let my eyes roam up and down his body. "Listen here, little boy. Where do you get off talking about someone you've never spoken a word to like that? I am not nor would I ever sleep with your father. That is gross and not to mention, highly illegal." I took a breath then muttered under my breath, "Let's not even get into the fact that I am here against my will." I shook my head. "I'm sorry you've got some daddy issues, but leave me out of it. And don't ever imply that I am a whore again. It won't be good for you."

"He called you a whore?!" I cringed at the sound of my brother's voice. I turned around and saw Wil, Greyson, and Jackson all looking pissed. Adorable.

"Don't worry about it little brother, I can handle it myself." I turned to look at the twins. "Having to walk around the house naked with only a towel isn't the best way to make a first impression." They looked thoroughly chastised. Good.

"Fuck that. He can't call you that." I sighed and looked over at Truman. He did look embarrassed. Hopefully we could get past this.

"It's fine Wil. He won't do it again, will you Truman?"

He looked up at me and cleared his throat. "No. I guess I won't."

I gave a fake smile. "Great! Now, Wil, I'm in need of your skills to get back at the twins. Care to help?"

Wil nodded and the twins made a speedy escape. I then motioned for Wil and I to leave. As we left I turned back to find Blake looking highly amused at the situation. I scowled. It wasn't funny. Okay maybe a little bit. Truman did look like he felt bad. Good.

As we walked up the stairs I could tell Wil was fuming. "It's alright. He's just angry at his father. I actually get it. Sure he's a dick. But he's hurting." Don't get me wrong, I was pissed. Truman was a jerk. But I felt for him. His mom died and his dad changed. It can hurt a child. "Let's just forget that it happened. If he continues to be mean, we'll deal with it then."

Wil looked over at me with a thoughtful expression. "I'm surprised you're letting it go so fast."

"We are getting a second chance at life. Might as well not go into it holding a grudge."

"Well if he keeps being a jerk, we'll deal with him together."

I smiled. "Love you."

"Love you too, sis."
