Sloane POV
RING! RING! RING!
My eyes flew open and I rubbed at them trying to get all the sleepers out. I turned to shut my alarm off, and I didn't even need to hit snooze. That's a first. I haven't woke up this early for two months during summer.
Oh summer, I think back fondly, I'm going to miss you.
I spent the entirety of summer with by best friend Brody. If we weren't hiking in the mountains watching the most beautiful sunsets together feeling so close to the sun that it was almost like we could touch it, we were at the lake swimming and racing because no one could match our competitive spirit.
I stared at the ceiling with a heavy sense of resolve. Today I was going to my first day of High School at Highlands High. I was shaking with nerves as I ripped the covers off my body and went to grab the outfit I picked out yesterday night.
I selected my favorite and only pair of black Lululemon leggings my dad got me for Christmas and a big oversized shirt I thrifted that had ACDC on it. I'm not trying to impress anyone clearly.Still, I wonder if people in high school will take notice in me? Maybe I can finally make a girl friend that I can talk to.
As for boys? It's becoming harder and harder to suppress the growing feelings im having toward Brody. Every day when I see him I barely can suppress the urge to plunge my fingers into his golden curly locks of hair and kiss him.
But that's simply not what friends do. I would never want to put our friendship in jeopardy either, he means to much to me.
I sighed he's probably going to be super popular with his charming looks and charismatic personality. Meanwhile I will fade into the background. That's alright with me, sounds like a lot less drama anyways .
I head into the bathroom and to get ready for the day.
I meet my gray, stormy eyes in the bathroom mirror. I've put my hair up in a messy bun and some strands of my chestnut colored hair fell framing my face. I would describe myself as spectacularly average, but taller than most girls at like 5'8.
"Sloan! It's time for breakfast honey!" My mom calls from the kitchen.
"Coming!" I tell her as I eye my mascara and decide if I should put it on or not. Nah. It's kind of scary how little I care about my appearance.
My mom gives me a look, her chestnut curls bouncing as she puts her hands on her hips.
"What?!" I asked her putting up my hands in exasperation.
"You are not seriously wearing leggings on your first day of high school are you?" She asks disapprovingly.
"That's precisely what I'm doing," I respond shoving some eggs in my mouth.
"How are we even related," she scoffs "Oh and by the way don't forget Tim is moving in today and we are having dinner at 6."
I tense. My moms boyfriend Tim isn't exactly my favorite person. I don't know what it is even, he just seems...off. But I guess if he makes her happy after my dad that's fine with me.
Personally, I think him moving in right now is way too soon. I mean my mom is freshly divorced it's only been a year. A year!
But it's fine it's fine. My mom is happy and that's all that matters. I know how sad she found out dad had an affair, I know how sad I was! It was horrible watching her cry herself to sleep every night and waking up to meet her red, puffy eyes for months. I can't even imagine if the one you gave your heart to cheated on you.
