I walked home by myself since Brody had tryouts. But I was practically skipping home. I've never been more optimistic about school than I am now. Who would've thought I'd make 2 new friends? Wow. I get it. This is a pretty mediocre achievement, but hey. I'll take what I can get.
When I got home my mom was at her desk with her reading glasses on and reviewing paperwork, but she immediately interrogates me as soon as she hears the door shut behind me.
"Lo Lo your back! How did it go? Did you make any friends?"
"It actually wasn't bad! I made new friends named Nat and then Cam," I said smiling so wide.
"Who would've thought," she said teasingly.
"Wow thanks for the confidence, Mom," I said scoffing.
"Im just teasing honey," she said laughing " It's just hard to picture you with anyone else but Brody."
"Yeah I know what you mean," I said laughing "I'm going to my room I already have homework."
"Alright just make sure your ready for dinner at 6,"
she says turning back to her paperwork."Got it," I say plastering on a fake smile.
I plop down on my bed and sigh. I just don't understand why I don't like Tim. He's been perfectly polite to me. I just have this gut feeling I can't escape that he's no good. I better find a way to shake this feeling because he will be living with us.
I decide to work on some math homework while I wait for dinner. After a while of staring at the paper barely accomplishing anything, I decided to call Brody and ask him how tryouts went.
On the third ring, he picked up and before he could get a word out I yelled "How were tryouts?! Did you make the team?"
I could hear a slight chuckle on the other end.
"I made varsity, Lo. VARSITY. I can't believe it," he said in shock.
"I knew it! That's incredible you deserve it!" I told him adoringly.
"We should go celebrate, you want to meet me at the rink in 30," he asked.
Brody and I have been skating together since we could walk. One of my most treasured places in this small town is the Skating Factory.
I glanced at my watch and it said 5:38PM.
Dang, I thought, I had really been staring at my homework for 2 hours.
"Ugh I wish," I sighed "Tim's moving in today and we are having a nice dinner with him I can't miss."
"That's today?" He said bewildered.
"Yup," I said popping the P.
"How are you feeling about it," he asked concerned.
"I mean he's not my favorite person in the world, but if she's happy I'm happy," I said resigned.
"Maybe it won't be so bad, I mean it might be nice to have a man in the house for a change," he offered.
"I guess we will find out," I said "look I got to run but maybe tomorrow we can go."
"Yeah sounds good. Good luck Lo," he said and I hung up.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and re attempted my math homework.
Before I knew it, my mom called from the kitchen.
"Tim's here and Dinners ready Lo!"
I groaned and got up from bed and braced myself for possibly the longest dinner of my life.
