Olivia was roused from her sleep by a small hand patting her arm and her name being whispered.
Slowly opening her eyes she found Riley staring back at her, impatiently waiting in front of the bed.
"Hey Sweetheart, you're up early" She whispered back, aware of the boy's excitement.
"We surprised Mama, Liv," Riley reminded her, her eyes sparkling.
Olivia nodded in reply, quietly getting up and following Riley who was already running down the hall and towards Noah's room.
Walking into the nursery she found Noah waking up as well as Riley animatedly talked to him.
"Hey, good morning Noah Bear, I see you're up too." Olivia smiled down at the boy and lifted him out of the crib to take him with them into the kitchen.
Giving Riley some simple tasks to accomplish she started preparing breakfast for them, hoping Amanda would stay asleep a little longer while they were working in the kitchen.
Once everything was finished and set on a tray except for the coffee she carefully handed it over to Riley who proudly began carrying it towards the bedroom while Amanda followed him with Noah on her hip, pushing the door open for her so she wouldn't stumble and fall.
Laying down Noah next to Amanda she helped Riley put down the tray before helping him up and getting back into bed as well.
"Wake up mama, wake up" Riley excitedly scrambled over to where Amanda was still sleeping, her face hovering over hers when she finally opened her eyes.
Noticing that she was awake Riley squealed before nearly shouting "Happy mother's day mama" with a huge smile on her face.
"Thank you muffin" Amanda smiled right back at her but before she got the chance to give her a hug or kiss she suddenly jumped off the bed, much to both her and Amanda's surprise.
"No wait mama, wait" She anxiously yelled and ran down the hall once again, leaving behind a confused Olivia and Amanda.
"What-" Amanda turned towards Olivia who simply shrugged in return, not knowing what Riley was up to either.
When she came back she held something in her hands and Amanda helped her back onto the bed, now sensing what this was about.
"I made you something," Shr proudly smiled as she handed Amanda a card she must have made atschool, decorated with a lot of crooked hearts and some scribbling on it.
"This is great Riley, thank you" Now she finally got to give Riley a kiss and hug and when Riley pulled back she raised an eyebrow, looking at the remaining item in one of her hands.
Before she got to ask Riley turned towards Olivia, who had silently watched the interaction so far while bouncing Noah on her lap, and handed her another handmade card.
"I made you one too Liv" She was still smiling brightly when Olivia took the card in her hands and looked at it, disbelievingly.
"Happy mother's day mommy" Riley beamed at her and Olivia looked from the card to him with tears pooling in her eyes.
"Oh sweetheart, thank you so much, come here" She pulled her into her side for a hug and kissed her forehead, looking over at Amanda who was watching the scene in awe.
They had never forced Riley to see Olivia as a parent and knew she was still getting used to her and Noah's presence and they were positively surprised at just how quickly she seemed to have adjusted to the new family constellation.
"We eat now?" Riley expectantly looked at both Amanda and Olivia and they shared a laugh before nodding at her and letting her take her plate from the tray.
"Is this okay?" Amanda whispered while Riley was busy eating, looking into Olivia's eyes to gauge her reaction.
"It's perfect" Olivia's voice was hoarse and laced with emotions as she looked first at Riley and then back at Amanda, not quite believing how lucky she got as Amanda leaned in for a kiss, whispering "Happy mother's day, Olivia."
