Holding on

Chapter One

After what happened with Dave and May I didn't want any friend I didn't even bother making friends.

I only worked and overworked myself since mom and dad divorced when the debts started piling.

Dad lost his job and started drinking which made him violent and angry all the time.

He never hit me though, but he threw things at me, whatever his hands got hold of.

I wanted to go to college but there was no one to pay for it.

I had no choice but work, two jobs actually. I was tired all the time working sixteen hours everyday six days a week.

I managed myself a meal a day. I lost more weight with time but I had to fight for myself because no one would and I wanted to be independent.

"Danielle, where's my breakfast?" Came my dad's voice from the kitchen, I could tell he was drunk and angry.

I rushed down to the kitchen only to have an empty bottle of beer thrown at me, I wasn't fast enough and it hit me straight in the face before shattering into pieces.

"Ouch" it hurt but he didn't care, I look up to see he's has this wicked grin on his face.

I gather what I can and make him some bacon and toast while trying to ignore the pain on my forehead.

I felt something trickle down the side of my head and wipe it with the back of my hand, "blood!!"

I say quietly to myself, my head begins to spin. Thank God its Sunday so no work, I struggle to my room and lay on the bed.

It felt like my head was being hit with a club over and over again.

The next thing I know I've passed out.
I spend the rest of the day in bed only going down a couple of times to get some water.

I managed to bandage my head and took some painkillers, I should be ready for work tomorrow morning.
