Chapter 42: Sick Day

Marinette did not have the pleasure of sleeping comfortably last night. Her kwami hadn't even approached her through the whole night.

After turning on her coffee machine she went towards Hugo's room to wake him up for school as usual. As soon as she entered in to wake up her sleeping child, she noticed the coat of sweat coating his temple as he huddled himself tight into his blanket.

Marinette placed her hand on his forehead to check for his temperature. It was very warm. Her touch seemed to disturb the child from his slumber as he opened his forest green eyes to  peek up at her.

"M-Mom I don't feel too well." he rasped out. Marinette smiled softly at him her hands still on his cheeks "I know my Hugh. You seem to have a small cold."

The bedroom window was open a little, leaving the cold air to easily invite themselves in. She might have forgotten to close the window last night.

She placed the thermometer into his open mouth with no protest. He sat still until the wait was over. His temperature was high. It would need monitoring throughout the day. If it went any higher, she would take him to the clinic. "How about you stay home from school today?" She suggested.

"But I don't want to stay home. That's boring! What about your work?" Of course her child was the opposite of her, he enjoyed attending school.

He did make a great point tho. Where was she supposed to leave Hugo if she needs to go to work? Her parents already looked after him for almost the whole weekend, Alya and Nino had their own jobs to care about.

You may ask why she never thought of hiring a babysitter before as she was one herself in the past, but it was just the fact that Hugo had trust issues. He wouldn't settle with anyone of the many she had hired.

Bringing a child with her to work? There was no way she can stay at home today, the fashion show was in a days matter and everyone was counting on her.

She looked at Hugo again and then made her decision. She would take him with her, make sure he won't leave her sight. He can sleep and play in the couch area while she worked. Just like bring your kid to work day.

She picked up Hugo, feeling bad for having to take him out for the day, and dressed him out with a sweater over his pajamas in order for him to stay comfy. She then wrapped the blanket around him tightly and went to get dressed up herself. On the way out, she prepared a little kit to keep him entertained and placed his medicine and thermometer in the side pocket.

Once both arrived to the company. Hugo was amazed to finally see where his mom worked, eyes blown wide. Other workers walked passed them looking strangely at Hugo, surely they would be surprised to find a child in a high-end fashion company.

She just walked straight into the elevators and towards her office. It was a good thing Adrien wasn't in the lounge area to greet her, maybe he wouldn't know that Hugo was with her.

Lucy smiled and greeted Hugo warmly when Marinette explained the situation. She let her know her schedule and resumed working on her laptop.

After settling her little one on the cozy couch in her office with his blankey covering him for extra heat and some cartoons playing in the corner, she was now ready to go through her emails.

Adrien might have not been waiting in the lounge, but he did come by not even half an hour later.

"Uh yea, Little one is running a fever today."
