When I woke up, the alarm on my phone was ringing. "Just One Yesterday" by Fall Out Boy was blasting from my charging phone. I check the time and it's 8:30. Okay. I can get ready and be out the door at 9 to catch the 9:30 bus to work. I get up and start the day. I work as a waitress at the Jakes Bar and Grill in Fresno. It's not the best job in the world, but the bills get paid, so I can't complain. I get dressed faster than I planned to, so I end up walking to the coffee place. It used to be called "The Coffee Hut" but it's under new management and the manager wanted to change the name, so they took down the sign but never put one back up. Now it's just an empty space with a "Under New Management" sign where the title should be. I opened the door and went to the counter to get my usual, paid for the coffee, and sat down at my usual table. Becca came and handed me my coffee, but it had blue tape wrapped around the lid.
"What is this?" I looked up at her and she smirked.
"It's your cup. I fixed it for you. It has all of your stuff in it." She chuckled to herself and walked away. The door opened and I felt the cold wind from outside and I looked up. 'Holy shit. You have got to be kidding me.' It was him. It was that guy that I had spilled coffee on. 'Oh my god. Don't see me please.' I sunk down lower in my chair. I took out my phone to make it look like I wasn't sitting alone..in the corner..with nothing to do. He went to the front and payed for his coffee. Oh my god. Please please please don't see me
As he turned around he stopped where he was.
GOD DAMMIT!!
"Hi." He stops at my table.
Fuck. Well here goes nothing.
"H-hi," I stammer. He pulls up a chair and sits across from me.
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
"I'm Dean. I'm that guy you spilled coffee on yesterday."
I blush.
"Yeah...um I'm really sorry about that." I cannot look this man in the face. My face feels hot as he spies my cup. He looks questionably.
"What is this?" He asks with his eyebrows pulled together.
"My friend...she put tape around it kinda like a joke. She doesn't want me spilling." I take the opportunity to glance at Becca at the register, and she's staring at me with her mouth hanging open. I look back at Dean.
'He has a pretty nice name. It fits him. He's like a rugged type of guy that gets down and dirty. He's not afraid to kiss a girl. Or hurt her.'
"Hey!" I snap back into reality. He's staring at me. I look up at his green eyes dumbfounded.
"You never answered my question."
"Sorry. I blanked out." He looked kind of offended. His mouth is hanging slightly open like he's about to say something. But he changes his mind when he closes it, still looking like he wants to say what's on his mind.
"What's your name?"
"Um.." Should I really tell him my name? That means I have to see him again. Or maybe he'll just go back to his regular everyday life?
"Anastasia," I finally say to him. He looks pleased with my name, like he was judging my name to see if it fits what I look like. Which it kinda does I guess. I mean I'm pretty normal. I'm 5'4, dark brown wavy hair that's past my shoulders, normal dark brown eyes, slender nose. I mean I look pretty normal. Nothing spectacular.
He sits back in the chair.
"That's a beautiful name."
"Thanks."
