"Well, that would be because he is a zombie." I stared at her as if she had three heads. " A zombie." I clarified slowly, questioning her sanity. She looked deadly serious. " Yes." I just stared at her, shifting my gaze between Elliot and her. " Mhmm... I know a nice place that'll take care of that. They give you a nice jacket, you can even hug yourself all day." I cheered, making them all burst into laughter.
" We are not crazy, Liabell..." Elliot spoke, his voice as enchanting as Theresa's if not more. " Mhmm... and I'm a blonde." I shot at him sarcastically. He gave me a blank look, as if I were the one who needed help. " No, those pretty curls of yours are clearly brown." I gave him a ' No dip sherlock' look, before Theresa spoke again.
" What do you think you know of Zombie's Liabell?" I racked my brain for an answer, never really thinking of it. " I guess what the movies show. They eat brains, walk slow, lose limbs. You know, and eat people." I looked at Elliot during the last part, and he just rolled his eyes. " Well, those aren't real Zombies. Zombie's are not bitten, nor created by a virus. It is a curse, and a terrible one at that." Theresa announced, eyeing me thoughtfully, as I tried to fully understander her.
Zombies couldn't be real. They were fake! They only existed in movies, and books. Not in real life. But still, a nagging feeling in the back of my stomach, told me to hear her out. " What do you mean?" She looked relieved at my question, as if she expected me to run away.
" Do you believe in witchcraft, Liabell?" Again I never really thought about it. " I guess." I thought was a safe answer. " Well, when a person dies, there soul is pulled from their body, and into another dimension. Now with Zombies, the witch drags the soul from the humans body, keeping it in a sort of...container. The witch then has power over the body, as well, as the soul. It is best not to cross a witch, for they have the power to destroy you. Death is kind, compared to this curse." She snarled feircely, looking away, composing her features.
I just nodded along with her story, not quite sure what to think. " The witch that created us, forces us to kill, every full moon. The urge overpowers our minds, sending us into action without thinking. So you see, Elliot did not do that by choice. He was sort of in a trance, possessed if you may." She finished, with a weary look in her eyes. If I did believe them, I would pity her. Deciding I should get more information, just in case, I asked her a question.
" Why does the witch make you kill?" Earth decided to speak up, turning next to me. " A zombie can only die, if we don't get the nutrients from flesh. She cursed us with immortality, becoming a monster once a month, forever. I would give anything to be able to grow old, die like it is supposed to be." I felt a tear slide down my cheek, and I hastily swatted it away.
" So your cursed...forever." I clarified, looking at each one. They hung their heads low, as I just watched them. " Why am I here though?" This made them all turn their gazes to me, and look at me seriously. " We couldn't have you running to the police, reporting a killer now could we?" Elliot mused, diddling with his fingers. I raised my eyebrows, and slit my eyes at him. " Wouldn't it be the truth?" " Technically, but I don't particularly like technicalities." We just glared at eachother, before Earth spoke up.
" Your not going to tell anyone are you?" She whispered, with a hopefull gaze. " Yes, I'm going to go to the police, tell them I saw a zombie eating a man on the streets. Of course I won't tell anyone! They'd send me to a looney bin!" Elliot found that hilarious, as his deep rumbling laugh filled the air. " I don't even know if I believe you myself." I finished, truthfully.
" So what are we going to do about her?" Elliot asked, as if I were a problem. I sneered at him, making him smirk. " Ass..." Theresa chuckled, looking between the pair of us. " Well, she did say she wasn't going to tell anyone. But I would like to speak with her alone." Earth and Elliot nodded, both sauntering out of the room. Theresa surveyed me for a long while, before finally speaking.
" Would you like to learn more?" I wondered, as I played with my fingers. They just told me they were zombies. The normal response would be to bolt out of this place, call the cops, and forget everything. But I'd never been normal. " Yes." Theresa grinned at me, showing me a row of pearly whites. " So you will come back tomorrow, or perhaps stay?" " Oh I can not stay. In fact my roommate is probably worried sick about me." I instantly remembered Lucy, and how she must feel. She probably called the police by now.
" But I will be back tomorrow." I promised. She gave me the address, sending me off. As soon as I pushed the doors, I heard two grunts of pain. " Eaves droppers." I commented, as I stepped over the two zombies at my feet. " No, just naturally nosy. So are you really coming back?" Earth asked, looking excited. " I said I would, so I am." She beamed at me, lunging in for a hug. She squeezed me with a choking force. " O-kay, Can't breathe." I rushed out, losing more oxygen. She let go rapidly, clasping her hands behind her back.
" Sorry. It's just I don't have many friends, or people to talk too, besides Elliot. And he's not a girl, so..." She stumbled out, looking embarrassed. I just smiled, giving her a hug. " Well you have me. See you tomorrow?" I said casually, making sure to kick Elliot, who was still lying on the ground. She nodded eagerly, and I giggled at her enthusiasm. " Aww, no hug for Elliot?" The idiot pouted, opening his arms as he shot up. I pretended to think about it. " Nope." I said popping the p, and going through the exit I saw directly across from the library.
I wasn't far from home actually, just around the corner. I braced myself for Lucy's lecture I was about to get, as I opened the door to my apartment.
