"What the hell are you?", I asked. Nate closed his book. Taylor looked at me with an apologetic look.
"Is there someone who wants to tell her? A secret she wasn't supposed to know", Nate said. Jason looked down and Taylor shook his head. Gina and Mary had left the room when Nate started speaking.
"Good. I think I will do this. I mean... it is my fault, isn't it? I shouldn't have called for Taylor."
"I..." I stuttered "I saw the fight..."
He looked at me. I could see he was angry.
"Great", he said and stood up. He walked to the big bookshelf and grabbed a big dusty book. "Here!", he exclaimed "Our history. Do you want me to tell you or do you want to read it?"
"Cou... Could you please stop speaking in riddles?"
"Okay", he said and looked at me "We are hybrids!"
What? Are you kidding me?
He put the book back in the bookshelf. I stood there shocked.
"Are you kidding me?", I blurted out.
"What?", Nate turned around to me "You don't belief me? Want me to prove it?" His eyes glowed red. I stepped back. Step after step I backed away. Suddenly I tripped and fell. I fell on something soft and fluffy. It wasn't a carpet. I looked what it was and saw the light brown wolf again. I tried to stand up, but I was too frightened. The wolf just looked at me. I crawled backwards until I hit the bookshelf.
He just came near me. I now kneeled in front of the shelf and tried not to cry. He stopped walking and tilted his head. Then he lied down with his head on my legs.
What the...?
"Like I said. A big fluff ball", Jason laughed "you can stroke him. He likes it. He doesn't bite. Well not now... but don't worry!"
I slowly touched the big wolf's head. His fur was fluffy and soft.
"See? It's alright", Nate laughed.
"Do you all... I mean... are you...", I stuttered.
"Are we all big fluff balls?", Jason asked, "Well... we all can turn into wolves, but not everyone is as nice as Taylor. Of course, we won't harm you. But... well... Jay is the wildest and Simon is merciless. Oh, and we all have different fur except for Taylor and Simon. They are brothers and have the same color, but Simon has bigger teeth."
"Oh, okay. Are you... half wolf and half..."
"Vampire? Yes. But we won't eat you."
"Yeah... sure. I think I should...", I motioned hint that I wanted to stand up. Taylor stood up and went to his room. I stood up to, smiled at Jason and went to my room too.

When I arrived upstairs, I ran to my room and locked the door behind me. I searched for my phone and dialed Sophie's number.
After two seconds she picked up the phone.
"Hey, Rose!", she said "What's wrong? You never called me before."
"Listen", I whisper screamed "You have to tell me something about hybrids."
"Okay. Now I'm worried. Are you sick? Why are you interested?"
"Just tell me! If a person ever meets one, what will happen?"
"Well nothing. They look like humans, so no one would notice."
"What if the person knows?"
"Well... hybrids want to keep their secret. I guess nothing good would happen. Every human who knows is dangerous for them. Why?"
"Shit!", I cursed.
"Rose? Did something happen? Where ar- "
Suddenly the call got cut off. My battery died.
Okay... I have to act normal...
I went to bed to get at least a little bit sleep.

The next morning, I woke up, did my morning routine and went downstairs. I hoped that I wouldn't be the only one who had breakfast, but to my surprise everyone sat on the big table in the living room. On the table was a big variety of foot. Fruits, pancakes, coffee and more was there. My mouth watered.
"Please tell me I'm not the only one who is eating", I smiled at them.
Jay who sat at one end of the table rolled his eyes. He said nothing.
"What do you think? We are dead and only able drink blood. Sorry if I destroy your hope, but you have to share", Jason laughed.
I sat down and we began eating.

In the middle of the breakfast Jay stood up, excused himself and went to his room.
"What's wrong with him? He is acting like a teenager in his puberty. He is twenty-three years old. He should act like an adult", Mary complained.
"Mary!", Nate interfered "He is like this only for ten years. He has to adapt to this. For me its hart too. I'm like this for thirteen years and it's hard for me to get used to this life."
"Can I ask you something?" I asked.
They nodded.
"Your age? Do you even...?"
"No", Nate said "We stopped aging when we completely turned."
"What does this mean?"
"Everyone has his own story", Gina said "These stories include someone's birth and their life with everything that happened and their death. But our stories include our turn. We aren't really dead. We didn't die. We were saved from death, but we aren't human. The day we turned into hybrids we stopped aging. It's very complicated to explain. Mary for example is still aging."
"Really?", I asked.
"Well...", Mary said "not for long. I'm with Paul. He has to turn me soon."
"You are human?"
"I'm not. I'm a werewolf. I'm from a nearby pack. I mean... I was. They disowned me, because of this. But... I'm very happy now." She smiled at me. She seemed really happy.
After we finished breakfast, I offered to do the dishes. I charged my phone in the living room so I could hear when my mom called me.
When I was doing the dishes, someone opened the door with a groan. I turned around and my eyes met Jay's.
"What are you doing here?", he asked disgustedly.
"Do you have eyes?", I replied.
He just groaned again and grabbed a towel. He started to dry everything I washed off.
Soon he got impatient and nervous.
The suddenly he slammed the towel on the floor.
"I can't do this", he groaned and left the kitchen.

After I finished, I went back to the living room. I started talking to Jason. We talked about so many things. Not about the hybrid-things. More about hobbies and other human-like things.
But then a question wouldn't leave my head.
"Jason?", I asked?
"Hm?", he replied.
"In the woods that day. Who..."
"Taylor. He heard your screaming and smelled the wolf. He saved you."
"Can you read my mind? You always know what I want to say"
"No, he can't", Taylor exclaimed from behind. He came in the living room and jumped on the couch next to me.
"You are really predictable", he said "But I have to admit, that your mind is hard to read."
"Wait!", I said "Does this mean you can...?"
"Yes. Every one of us has abilities. You really don't know much about us, do you?"
I shook my head.
"Well...", Jason said "I can turn into other animals."
"And I can read minds and sense if someone is a vampire, a wolf or something else."
"That's cool!", I said. I was fascinated by their abilities. Jason even showed me some animals he could turn into.
We laughed for a few minutes after he turned into a mouse and Taylor chased him in his wolf form.
"Hey", Max came into the room "What is so funny?"
"Hey Max!", I said "They told me about their abilities, and it was really funny. Taylor was in his wolf form and chased Jason as a mouse through the whole room."
Max laughed.
"Do you want me to control his mind when he looks like a mouse?"
I gulped. The thought that Max could control minds was scary.
"Don't worry!", he assured me "I'm not using my ability very often. Only in cases of need. But..."
He looked at Taylor as he would let him read his mind on purpose.
"No" Taylor said.
"Okay. Rose do you want to see something really cool?"
I nodded.
Jason and Taylor stood up. They now stood beside Max with a big distance between them.

What happened next made my eyes widen.

"Oh my god!"
