12. Him again

"Lin Zhou! Where are you?"

Li Yan has been calling her for hours until his voice is hoarse, unable to yell anymore.

"My fault. She could be dead by now..."

Feng Nan says, "You got that right."

"Shut up."

"You stupid moron. Unfit to be her master."

"I said shut up!"

They are arguing again using the same mouth. One baritone voice. One bass voice.

Feng Nan only stops arguing when he senses someone is heading their way.

Zhao Yang and three other disciples have arrived. He looks relieved when he sees Li Yan is okay.

He scolds, "Are you crazy? Why did you run on your own?"

"Sorry, senior apprentice brother. I lost my pet, Lin Zhou."

Another disciple says, "That chick? You could just find another one."

Zhao Yang is silent. His Master has stated that chick is a baby demon beast. It isn't against the rules to raise a beast. So he has let Li Yan off the hook.

Most adventurers have raised demon beasts to guard their life during battles. It's a common practice in this world. The beast would be very loyal if you raised it from baby.

Zhao Yang only says, "Let's finish our mission. I'll help you find him later."

"Okay. It's a girl, not a boy."

His statement shocks everyone around him.

A disciple asks, "Isn't Lin Zhou a boy's name?"

"I just think it's a good name. I couldn't think a better name for her."

In short, he is just too lazy to give her a name.

"Pfft..."

Zhao Yang suddenly pities that baby chick. Having super lazy fellow as her master.

They kept wandering deeper into the Valley. No more noises from wild animals here. As if all of them are too frightened to appear.

A huge demon snake is lying  in leisure when Ling Xiao and Lin Zhou arrive on spot. Her eyes are closed. The snake has a beautiful woman's face and sexy upper body. It's a snake's body from waist below.

Lin Zhou chirps wildly when she got tossed toward the beast. The snake opens her eyes. Her slit pupils are staring the chick. Not everyday an easy prey delivers herself to be eaten.

"Chirp! Chirp!"

Lin Zhou tries to run for her life. She never expects she's so vicious. Ling Xiao has tossed her as a bait.

The snake barred her fangs and ready to swallow poor Lin Zhou.

Ling Xiao's sword flies to her neck but the snake avoids it easily. The sword flies back to her hand.

Zhao Yang and other disciples have showed up to back her up. They attack the snake demon together.

Lin Zhou is crying when her master picks her up.

"Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!"

She kept scolding her stupid master. Li Yan smiles sheepishly. He caresses her head while scanning her for visible wounds.

He apologizes, "Sorry. It won't happen again. Are you hurt?"

"Chirp!"

She explains that damned woman has used her up as a bait. Feng Nan understands her speech well.

Ling Xiao joins forces with Zhao Yang and manage kill the snake demon.

"Get the core!" yells Feng Nan in the mind links.

Li Yan jumps forward and snatches the core away before Ling Xiao could get it.

"Thief! Give it back to me!"

Li Yan stares to the bloody yellow core in his hand. He smirks to her although she is glaring to him.

Li Yan teases, "Finder keepers."

Ling Xiao points her sword to him.

She threatens, "I'm warning you. Give it back."

Zhao Yang has just noticed her sword tassel.

He asks, "Fiery Lotus. How dare you threaten my junior brother?"

He rises his sword and he fights the demonic cultivator for a while. Ling Xiao bites her finger and a drop of her blood falls to the ground.

She summons, "Raise from your graves!"

She dodges her head to avoid his sword

The earth beneath them trembles tremendously. Skeletons have risen from underground. This is the reason why people are afraid of demonic cultivators. They could easily control dead creatures.

The skeletons attack the other disciples. They are crushed many times. They kept reforming and continue their fierce attacks. Disciples are getting injured. They have no choice but flee from that spot.

Ling Xiao kneels down. She has used up a lot of Qi to summon them. She inhales a deep breath. The core got taken away. She could still scavenge other stuffs. She peels the snake skin. She takes it's fangs and bones.

Suddenly she hears, "Snake meat is tasty. Could I get a share too?"

She rolls her eyes. She stands up and looks backwards to stare him.

A pair of peach blossom eyes. A sweet smile. A handsome annoying man.

She asks, "What are you doing here? Do you want to be killed?"

She twists her fingers. Skeletons have returned to her spot. Guarding her.

Li Yan comments, "Don't waste your power. I'm not here to fight you."

"What do you want?"

"Simple. I want your help."

She stares him as if he's a mad man. Most disciples from righteous sects are itching to kill demonic cultivators.

She mocks, "Why should I help you?"

"You scratch my back. I scratch yours. Simple."

"Sorry. I got no fleas like you."

"Wait!"

She has dashed away after taking everything she has wanted from the corpse.

Li Yan comments, "Funny woman. It's not like I'm going to take advantage of her."

"Maybe. You look like a bloody pervert to me."

"You are a pervert. Your whole family are perverts."

Feng Nan has insulted him. Li Yan was very loyal to his fiancee in the past. He isn't a womanizer.

"I'm not like you. Women everywhere."

His left hand suddenly hits his head.

Li Yan complaints, "Why did you hit me?"

"Who said I have a lot of women?"

They don't know Ling Xiao hasn't really left. She has been spying on Li Yan. She is surprised to see he is talking to himself. No, not right. There are two voices coming from him. As if they are two persons in one body.

"Interesting. Is he possessed?" whispers her.

Zhao Yang and his juniors have arrived. Ling Xiao jumps up to a tree to avoid unnecessary conflicts with them. She is exhausted. Not much Qi left to fight them.

Zhao Yang scolds, "You ran off on your own! You could get killed!"

"Sorry. Guess I ran in a circle and ended up here again."

Zhao Yang and other disciples scold him few times more before they leave the spot.

Ling Xiao jumps down from the tree. She heads to a different direction from them.
