Chapter 10 – Internship
"PT pa spot naman" a tall man called me while I was counting the weights from the leg press area.
"ilan 1-RM mo?" I asked him before going to the place where I should assist him from lifting weights. He should know right? I mean, he's an athlete, he should know the maximum weight he can lift in 1 repetition.
"120 dapat, kaso weak pa" he said while positioning his self sa bench.
"bat 90 lang? try mo kayang mag-100 na" I asked before putting the weights on the barbell.
"naks, yes ganyan nga PT PM, you should really progress your client if alam mong nagiimprove na rin siya" my staff or should I say professor commend. Chill prof lang siya, super cool, I really admire how she manage to get the MA while working and at the same time naiintindihan niya kaming Interns na hawak niya, she never forgets to ask how we are while we are in different clinics. She also teaches well and demonstrates very accurately. The best prof so far.
"lakas, kawawa ako dito kay PT PM" he said blabbing.
No I think, he's not kawawa, I mean, ayaw niya ba yun? He' improving and the only way to test the improvement is to progress the exercise. Well, in the end naman, he done it with 3 sets pa.
After a while I heard the glass door of our school's gym, opened.
Our gym isn't the typical one, with the basketball court and all that, our gym is called "Skills Development Area", this is where Interns like me trains the athletes during their conditioning month, pre-competition, during and post-competition phase. The gym is full weight equipment, like bench press machine, lat. Pull down machine, leg press, kettlebells, dumbbells, medi-plinth the bed we use for the clients for their cool down session and such.
The one who opened the door is no other than the best intern last month, JP.
"sup bro?" na lang yung naririnig ko habang papalapit siya place ko. Parang kilala siya ng lahat, kaya siguro siya nag best intern last month, parang walang na-skip na taong bumati sakanya, ang dami pa naming clients ngayon dito sa gym.
"okay na? Ice pack na lang para bawas sakit sa katawan" I said to the client I was handling.
"sure boss"
I was about to turn around to get to the hydro area, where the hot and old packs are placed, pagikot ko, natamaan ko may natamaan ako sa dibdib, familiar, kilala ko to...
Si JP lang pala.
"aray! Mapanakit!" he said with manly voice while holding his chest
"ay sorry, ano ba andiyan ka pala, bakit di ka man lang nagsasalita"
"daming sinabi, ito na nga ako na may dala ng Ice" he said while putting it on my client who's sitting on the medi-plinth.
"thanks"
"anong ganap? Bakit andito ka?" I said while putting kinesio-tape on my client, the one you put on athletes to decrease decrease pain and to support the affected joints. As for my client, the right shoulder is the affected one, it was injured before, hindi naman daw masakit, but may game siya tomorrow, so i supposed to support it overnight lang to gain confidence before the game.
"hatid kita sa Ace Hospital" he said while scratching the back of his head.
"what? ang layo non, saka bukas pa naman ako don" we were assigned to different clinics every month, so after each month, iba naman pupuntahan namin, iba namang mga clients or patients yung mahahandle namin, mas maraming exposure, mas mahahasa yung clinical skills naming as PT or OT.
