If it wasn't for the dauntingly embarrassing situation that would've followed if I fell back asleep, I wouldn't have woken Louis up.
It seemed considerably inconvenient that I had possibly never found myself more comfortable than I currently was in this position; immersed in our patch of grass that had warmed with both Louis and I having slept on it for several hours, the twilight blue coloured sky that glowed up our surroundings with a dim, early light, which was light enough to give the message that it would probably be a good idea to move back into the tent. By the look of the sky and the temperature of the air, I really wouldn't have estimated it was much past 5am.
"Louis." I gently nudged the sleeping boy in my arms, our legs tangled together which made any movement impossible without waking him up.
Louis stirred, responding to my whisper with a sleepy frown, before blinking his eyes open and staring at me. After sparing a few seconds to recollect his thoughts and remind himself of where we were, the mild confusion dissolved in his expression.
"Tired..." He mumbled, his voice thick and quiet.
"So am I." I lied, although our surroundings and his presence so close to me had been enough to wake me up past the point of falling back asleep. Especially here.
"What's the time...?" He asked, gently untangling himself from me and stretching off his slumber, his eyes squeezed shut. I couldn't help my eyes flicker down to the patch of skin that he accidentally exposed as his t-shirt had moved up slightly with the stretch, and tried my best to remain emotionless when I accidentally noticed a distinctly purple-looking patch amongst the perfect tan of his back skin. I swallowed the lump in my throat, stretching myself out along with him as I pretended to think.
"I'm guessing it can't be any later than around 5. But if we don't head back to the tent now, we'll probably have a bit of an embarrassing shock in the morning."
"It's not everyday you'll see two guys falling asleep in the middle of a field, I guess."
"Well, I didn't plan the falling asleep part." I chuckled nervously.
"Neither did I." Louis hesitated.
"Maybe the night got the best of us."
"And demanded we stayed outside?" Louis joked.
I shrugged. "That's what it seems like."
"We're just too beautiful for the tent." Louis flicked his hair in a mock-flourish.
You are. My mind whispered.
"But we'd better go back there, before they start a spontaneous search party."
"What, at 5am?" Louis raised an eyebrow, although he sat up.
"Spontaneous being the operative word." I sat up along with him, leaning on my hands and letting our shoulders rest against each-other as we both stared up into the blue-ing sky, as if we were expecting the sun to arise at any moment.
The closeness also gave me hope that he didn't bitterly regret what happened last night. Especially as I figured it would be a moment that was prepared to wean its way into my songbook, and diary. Many times. Along with my mind, which now was a prime example of over-thinking and overplaying the moment repeatedly in my head.
It gave me a sense of possibly far-fetched hope that maybe it might have meant something to him, too.I could only estimate how often someone of Louis' appearance and personality partook in the casual kiss or two from people he'd only met a matter of days ago, but after having been revealed to the other side of Louis; the side that was obviously hidden away for a reason, made me feel bad for judging him by that stereotype.
