When your legs don’t work like they used to before…

My phone vibrated on the table. Thinking out loud was blaring through the speaker of my phone so I picked it up. I may have felt bad that I woke up from a very good daydream. But it was also getting weird because I woke up just in time when my imaginary enemy, Kyle, said so.

“Hello?” I said as I pressed the phone to my ear.

“Come over!” It was Drianna, my cousin. “I’m bored. Mom and dad already left. I’m home alone.”

“Can’t, model.” I teased. I tease her model to get in her nerves. I like annoying her. She’s like a sister to me so I don’t feel shy around her. At times we don’t really have much to say to each other but when secrets are said, we say it to each other.

“There it goes again.” She said irritated. “I’m not a model!”

“Okay, okay.” I said with a smile. “You come over. Let’s have a movie marathon or something.”

“Okay.” She chirped happily “I’ll just take a bath and I’ll be on my way.”

I finished the entire chores mom left and that includes, folding the clothes, washing the dishes, sweeping the floor, giving Jazz a bath. I didn’t have breakfast. I’ll just eat early lunch. I’ll make this last day of Christmas vacation worthwhile by going back to bed. I lay down on the couch and slept.

Everyone was cleaning up in the facility. The injured were rushed to the medics and everyone was busy. I rushed to the Command Center having a gut feeling drag me there.

All the Level four and coaches were there, talking around the table. A hologram of our facility floated in the middle. Coach Chris was busy pointing to different places on the hologram while the rest nodded and often asked questions. I didn’t enter. I just peeked. I need to find Kyle. He just told me to find him but he hasn’t said where.

I went to my room and clicked a few buttons on the tablet. My television screen came to life. I clicked at a few more buttons until it showed me a map. I studied it for a minute, still having no clue where to find Kyle. What do I do? I couldn’t just give up. I need answers.

Everyone will disagree to let me leave if I ask for help. Someone might actually tell the coaches what I’m up to. I’d rather keep this to myself. I fell on the bed still making no progress. Jazz lay down beside me and rested her head on my stomach.

Jazz. What’s the use of a dog? I jumped up as Jazz puts on a puzzled face an cocked her head to the side.

“Jazz,” I said trying to make my dog understand. “I need you to help me find Kyle. I think you got his scent from our last encounter with him.”

Jazz howled and leaped off the bed. I changed to my uniform and got a few weapons. I equipped Jazz with weapons too and some armory.

Jazz and I crept out of the hallway and out of the facility. We walked for about half an hour until she led me to a forest-like place surrounded with nothing but trees, bushes and creepy-crawlies. She gave a low growl as she motioned for me to look through the bushes. I slowly moved the leaves away to see well. Kyle was there, seated on a rock, alone. He was staring at his reflection in the water and slowly, he sunk down on the grass, covering his eyes with his arm, as if he could sleep comfortably like that.
