She watched him as he looked at the overcast clouds outside, her warm smile dissipated in a millisecond and she unraveled her hand around his and scratched at the back of her hand. His phone started to ring on the bedside table and his gaze snapped from the window and grabbed his phone to look at the contact,
A small frown tugged at the edges of his lips as he saw the name,
Hisoka.
He looked back up at Amayaa's curious eyes,
"I really need to take this... Could you step out for a moment?" He said with a blank tone and a frown,
She shifted nervously and slipped off of the bed and headed towards the door, the door opened and closed with a soft click.
He pressed answer and sat up to turn the heater on, he pressed the phone against his ear to hear Hisoka's greeting.
"Hiya~ Boss." He said with an amused tone,
Chrollo flicked the heater on to the loudest setting, he glanced towards the door and thought if the noise of the heater was going to drown out Chrollos and Hisokas conversation, Chrollo hoped that Amayaa wouldn't be able to hear their conversation over the heater.
"What is it." He said deadpan, Chrollo was not too happy about Hisokas shattered loyalty and his sporadic decisions, it didn't help that Amayaa was keeping something from him, and he noticed her anxiety around him.
"I have something to share with you about little bunny, something she hasn't felt like telling you yet~" Hisoka's voiced was lined with excitement and the mention of Amayaa made his pitch go slightly higher,
Chrollo tensed at his tone and the mention of Amayaa holding something back from him, but the guilt of his sin tugged at his conscious and pulled his feeling away from being angry towards Amayaa. What he had done was far worse than keeping a secret.
"I'm listening," He replied, desperately trying to hide the separation in his voice,
Hisoka chuckled and continued,
"You know... Mayaa has become a celebrity in the Hunters forum, she's sure to have many pursuers on her tail... Anyways... Have you heard of the Greene Hill case? I'm not too interested in the news...But when this case came about I was infatuated, I found myself interested in the Volpe family... And began my own 'private investigation'. " He said with a different tone than he normally used,
Volpe? That's Amayaa's last name... Then it clicked,
"The youngest Volpe daughter, Aiano, was found brutally murdered in the Volpe estate's garden. The authorities never found her killer and the world felt for that family, the mother, Nia was poisoned two weeks later. Then, the eldest daughter, the pride and beauty of the family, Amayaa, went missing four days after her mother's death, she's still missing to this day, although they pronounced her dead. What a tragic story, isn't it?" He said with a deep tone, no amusement lied beneath the clown's bright facade. He truly held sorrow for Amayaa?
"It's sad because I grew up with natural envy of the Volpe family, they were celebrities in Glam Glas land, and everyone knew of the perfect family that sat on the Greene Hill. You know... there were rumors that if you looked long and hard enough into the eyes of a Volpe, you could see your future and all the mistakes you were bound to make. Silly isn't it? They were a beautiful family, such a shame that only a broken boy and a broken father remain on that melancholic hill." He continued,
Chrollos face was consumed into knots,
So much she had kept from him, did he truly not mean enough to where she told him why she was running away? That thought struck an empty void in his chest, it felt as if how he knew himself in her eyes had truly been shattered.
