Now since I'm going to get my license soon, I decided to start looking at cars. One thing led to another and I ended up looking at the really expensive cars. I'm talking like a couple of 100K-a million (thanks The Weeknd for making me look up what your "P1 Cleaner than your church shoes, ah" and your "all red lamb just to tease you, ah" were after watching you in American Dad). Obviously, as a new driver, I would never get that, but it's nice to dream. The car I picked out as what I wanted was either going to be a Buick SUV or a Chevrolet SUV, both averaging in around 24k. That seemed like nothing for me, cars are expensive, and I needed to pay for it myself and I only have so much money to my name, and my parents weren't going to help me out so this was me "looking at cheap cars".

But as I began to look, I began to familiarize myself with car brands, prices, and how they looked. I would go out driving for practice and call out every expensive brand I saw, and trust me I saw a lot. I cannot tell you how many times I've said, "Tesla", "Range Rover", "Porsche", and "Maseratti" on my short 10-15 minute ride to work or school.

Whenever I'm at the school, I see at least 3 G-Wagons drive-by, along with a few range Rovers and Teslas.

Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Lexus were all such common brand names to me, I didn't even realize how expensive and luxurious they were. My best friend's mom has a Benz, my aunt had a BMW, and a Range Rover, my other friend's Mom had a Porsche, and someone else I know has three Alfa Romeo's. These expensive cars were just in my everyday life. My neighbor has 2 Lamborghinis that he is saving for his son's when they are old enough to drive, and sure that seems like a little much but I never questioned it before.

A good amount of cars in my town average is around 100k. For me, I always thought that cars were just that expensive. I was surrounded by them.

The other day I was talking to one of my teachers, and he said that once he leaves my town and enters "the rest of the world" you can't see any car over 30k, no teslas or Maserati's, or BMW's all you can see are VW's, and Hyundai's for miles, and that nobody cares if you crash into somebody else because maintenance is so cheap.

I never realized that seeing a Tesla every day wasn't normal, or a Mercedes. That was just a part of my day.

Now one again to humble myself for a moment, my parents drive 2007 and 08 honda accords. My older brother doesn't have a car, and neither do I, we all share them. My parents aren't really into buying expensive things in general, and the cars work so they don't see why they need new ones.

Once again, I've been sheltered from poverty my whole life. I never knew that some of these cars weren't normal to see all the time.

When I'm older, I'm sure if I can I'll buy a nice pricy car, a range rover is probably my dream car but I'm going to make sure that I give back. Buying cars for those in need if I can, or contributing money to those who cannot afford cars. If I can, giving people my old cars if I buy new cars frequently. I just want to give to those in need.
