The police took us to the DHHR office in our town. We stayed there long into the night. There were no open houses in our district no one to take us. The people in the office were nice I know now it was pity. We waited for hours until finally they reached someone willing to take us in. We fell asleep on the way there shoved in between our bags of clothes.
When we arrived they were nice at first I was terrified of what was going to happen to us. The women showed us to our rooms she had two daughters and one son two older than me and on the same age. We settled into a new normal.
They signed us up in our new schools. I ran away once, I didn't make very far all I wanted was our family back but it was too late. The younger daughter fought with me day and night. They had a baby sitter for us almost every night we were at her house I relished that they didn't want us and eventually they got ride of us.
We went to a new house this one was one of the worst I had ever been in. There names were Ann and Brent they had three daughters all horrible. I stayed with the youngest she fought me constantly we could never get along.
We settled in with them I tried so hard to make Owen laugh if only to see his smile once again. My little brother didn't always fit into the houses. It started to get worse every time we did something wrong we were punished. Locked in our rooms for days.
They feed Owen for which I was grateful for I could take what ever they did as long as Owen was okay. I had butter and bread for when I did eat. They made me clean out the toilet every time it was used having to take everything out of it no matter what was inside.
At least we had visits with our parents though they only showed up once or twice. At least they came right. After one visit Owen was violently sick Ann whipped all the puke onto me and my cloths saying it was all my fault he was sick.
She told me everyday that it's as all my fault, that every single thing that has happened was because I was born. I soon beloved her. All the while we went through this the only person who tried to get us back was the one who first caused the whole mess.
Ann and Brent soon told the system to take us away we were too out o control some of the worst kids they've ever had. We left and we're taken to a new home. This on so much better than the last.
