"Saruto?"
I formed a snarky smile as I met with a confident figure. Her long brown hair rested over her shoulders as it interlaced with her crossed arms. Around her neck, she wore a blue scarf loosened as it circled around, with the end of it straying towards the ground. She really was growing into it. The first thing however that caught my eye was a shinobi headband around the forehead, she wore it proudly.
"Asami Sarutobi, how's it going?" Kakashi-sensei answered for me.
I hadn't even responded to her. But it was too late now, but if it wasn't for Kakashi-sensei I bet that we would have let her hang.
"Oh, Kakashi-sensei!" she bowed.
She then glanced back to me and seemed curious at my appearance. Hopefully, she didn't think I changed too much. She then began to walk over to me and became hesitant.
Leaning away, I was overwhelmed by the curiosity she had. She was the first person I was seeing after all this time from my childhood. What was she going to say? What would she do if she didn't like what she saw?
As she leaned her face close to mine, I locked eyes with her pale Hyuga eyes. The whites reflected my own face. Seeing what I had looked like, I had finally realized how far I had come from being away from home with Kakashi-sensei.
"There he is," she smiled.
"What?" I blushed, trying to look away.
"My favorite cousin, dummy!" she laughed and then leaned away.
Shocked, I looked back at her as she laughed. I felt an overwhelming sensation of embarrassment. She then stopped laughing to look back up to my apparent unforgettable face.
"Why so serious?" she mocked with her hands on her hips, "Don't tell me that Kakashi-sensei worked all the fun out of you?"
Kakashi-sensei threw his hands over his head to nervously laugh. Was I really a bummer to her? Wow, I wonder what everyone else would say about me.
Then glancing over to the door to the room, she noticed my apparent eagerness to see everyone inside. Her confused expression morphed into a delighted one as she moved out of the way for us to pass. Was she not coming in with us? As I looked over to her she knew exactly what I was thinking.
"I have to report to Uncle Naruto about the new teams," Asami casually cleared out.
Report? To my grandfather? But why her? Then it hit me, she was wearing a flak jacket. So that meant that in the time I was gone she had graduated from the academy, became a Genin and Chunin. Guess, I wasn't the only one who changed. And I guessed I figured that out because she was being personally trained by my mother last I checked. She probably was at the academy to get her two new team members.
Swiftly she acknowledged us with a bow and then started past us and down the hall. But something had me curious.
"What team?" I questioned.
Turning around, she looked back at me and smiled.
"Team 7, of course," she snarked.
Snarking back, I smiled, and she nodded then continued to walk away. Turning back towards the door with Kakashi laying back, I touched the door with my fingertips. I hesitated. Meeting Asami was one thing but everyone else was a different thing. Maybe I should come back when they've situated their teams? It was only fair. But Kakashi was here, he would let me. I felt his eyes beating on my neck. Just do it.
Creaking the door open, the chatter in the room instantly died down as everyone's eyes were on me. Damn. No one knew I was back, so their expressions said it all.
Their faces were emotionless.
