uhhhhh don't mind me disappearing for like 2 months lmao whoops and this chapter might be shitty idk im so sorry
Ross' POV
I'm sitting on the couch in my garage studio, gripping the edge as I subconsciously bounce my knee into oblivion. My mind is all over the place. It's kind of a lot to grasp. You can't really blame me, can you? I can hear the door open and someone's footsteps, but it doesn't register in my brain until they say something.
"Yo Ross, quit it with the shaking, you're gonna put a hole in the floor." Rocky's voice enters my train of thought, yet I still have my eyes glued on the floor. "Ross!" That snaps me out of it.
"Sorry Rock, I guess I was in my own world for a second there."
"Uh, yeah, clearly dude." Rocky scoffs lightly. From across the room, my phone lights up with a buzz, about seven consecutive times. Rocky picks it up and raises an eyebrow. "Why is Raini harassing you with a bunch of messages?" I let out a sigh. Calum had mentioned she might try and talk me into the show.
"Yeah, Calum called me today with a starring role on a new HBO show and Raini's been trying to talk me into it, for like, an hour. It's totally not a big deal." Lies. It kind of totally is.
"Shit, really? Because that sounds like a pretty big deal to me man," Rocky walks over to clap me on the back. "Why do you even need convincing, how often is it that you just get handed a role? And haven't you been looking for a new acting job?"
"Yeah."
"Is it a bad concept or something?"
"No, I'm actually kind of stoked about the idea of it."
"Okay, so, why the hell haven't you accepted it?" I let out a sigh.
"Because Laura's in it too." I mutter quickly.
"Laura? Which one, like Laura Marano? Like, Ally Dawson Laura Marano?"
"Yes, Laura Marano. The only Laura that we both know and my ex-favorite person ever." I say with an eye roll.
"Hey don't be a smart ass with me bro, I'm just asking." Rocky puts his hands up in surrender. I sigh and put my head in my hands.
"Yeah, I know. Sorry. But you can see why this is a problem, can't you?"
"Uhhhh..." Rocky trails off for a second, oblivious. "Wait. Don't tell me you still haven't talked to her?" His eyebrows raise a bit. I stand up and suck in a breath, moving to pace across the room, only to land in the desk chair. "You've gotta be kidding me."
"Nope."
"Ross, it's been what? Almost 3 years?"
"More like almost 6..."
(yes. i know i said 4 earlier on but that math was so incorrect early 2018 -> end of 2023 is almost 6 years. someone validate this please. also from here on out just go with whatever i say for the timeline. im in deep shit lol)
"You're mental, Ross. 6 years? She was your best friend. You used to be inseparable. Like, it would get annoying inseparable. You spent so much time-"
"Oh don't you think I know that?!" I snap at Rocky as I whip my head up, cutting him off. I sigh again. I've done that a lot today.
"That's 6 years without your best friend, Ross. She was basically family at that point. Don't you want her back?" Rocky wasn't fazed by my outburst.
"Of course I do. I miss her so much, I, god." I suck in a breath and let it out slowly. "Of course I want her back. But it doesn't matter what I want. She made it clear that she doesn't want anything to do with me." My head falls back onto the headrest and I stare at the ceiling.
