Chapter 12

Ava's POV.
I, I don't know how it happened. We are in chaos. They ambushed us.
We were all at the pack meeting going over our battle strategies one last time since the full moon next week and we were going to send the kids and people who couldn't fight to the safe-house the next morning when we heard the screams coming from the village. We were ambushed.
"Ce-Ce, you and the girls run round up as many people as you can and get them to the safe house and then come back we have a battle to fight." Alpha Jack said. Right now the battle begins. "Ava you get the kids, I will get the pregnant ladies, Taylor you get Luna Nadia to the safe-house and you girls just get anybody you can find we have to get them to the safe house." Ellie said.
We all nod and run into the battle. I change into my pure white wolf form to run faster. I change back into my human form when I came across a woman who is hiding behind a bush trying to keep her crying baby quiet while she has tears streaming down her face herself. My heart breaks at the scene but I had to stay strong. "Ma'am? Come with me I can get you to the safe-house." I said to her.
"But my husband he has gone to fight I can not leave him." she whimpers.
"I know you feel that you can't leave him but would he want you and his child here hiding amidst a battle or safe so he could fight in your honour? Now please come with me I have to get the children to the safe-house." I say pleading her.
She nods her head and agrees to come with me.
"Go to the boats and they will take you across the river. Run!" I instruct her. As I'm getting the kids to the boats all I can hear is growls(from the people fighting) and screams from the people who are trying to get to the boats. I am beginning to feel overwhelmed. But I know this is what I signed up for when I decided to help protect my pack. The children are petrified and are scared of losing their parents who have gone into battle. As I was getting the kids onto the boats I can hear a baby crying. As I went closer to the cries I notice that the cries are coming from a house that's on fire. I have two choices I can either go and attempt to save the child or I can leave it and wait for some one else to. I decide to try and save the child. I run. I tried to get into the house but the door was locked so I kicked it down.
I run upstairs where I heard the screaming and crying coming from. I check all the rooms but I can't find the baby. I am starting to get scared because all of a sudden the crying stops. I am going to check the attic. And what I see next shocks me. Tears escape my eyes before I could hold them in.
A baby girl is lying unconscious in her crib with a ring of flames surrounding her.
What do I do?!!
I run downstairs and I grab a bucket and fill it with water. The house is burning so I don't have much time. I run to the attic and the flames are burning down the wallpaper. I needed to get to the baby. She doesn't look much older than a few months old.
Where are her parents?!!
They can't have abandoned her because from what I can see she is adorable! I throw the water from the bucket on the flames surrounding the crib which the baby is in and the flames dissolve. With tears streaming down my face I grab the baby from inside the crib and run out of the hell house. I sit on the steps of the house and give CPR to the baby which I am just going to call Avery. "Come on sweetie just open your eyes please." And by some miracle, she opened her eyes! All I can hear was screams and loud noises. I have to go back and fight but what can I do with baby Avery?!
Because the boats have already gone!!!
And I can't just leave her on a burning houses door step she will get hurt or worse killed. I started to sob. Man this baby is turning me into an emotional mess!
"AVA!!! AVA!!! AVA!!!" I hear some one screaming. I look up and see the girls running to me.
"Ava! Thank god we found you! We got Nadia to the boats and she is across the river at the safe house...Oh and would you like to tell us who your little friend is?" Ellie said cooing at Avery. I pass baby Avery (who is now giggling happily) to Ellie and move us away from the rapidly burning house and to behind a tree.
"I was gathering the kids and getting them to the boats when I saw a house on fire and I heard a baby screaming. So then I went to the room the baby was in and put out the flames, grabbed the baby, who I am going to call Avery, and ran out of there! And after that I gave her CPR and then you guys came." I told them.
"So you rescued this baby from a burning house?" asks Amelia, for clarification.
"Yeah. What about all the kids? Did they get to the safe house??" I inquire suddenly remembering the job I was asked to do.
"Yeah everybody who needs to be at the safe house is there." Replies Taylor.
"Where are Avery's parents? Questions Ce-Ce, asking the question on all of our minds.
"I honestly don't know, apart from Avery the house was empty." I reply.
"You don't think they abandoned her do you?" Asks Ellie.
"If they did they are stupid! I mean look at her she is soooo cute and gorgeous and small and did I mention cute-"
"AVA stop rambling! Ava when you went in the house were their any signs that people lived there?" Ellie asks.
I rack my brain trying to remember.
"I don't remember much because I just wanted to get out of there. But the bedrooms were empty there was no bedding and clothes." I reply.
"So she was abandoned!" Me-Me shouts.
"We can't go and fight with a baby. One of us has to stay out with the baby."
I should do it. I mean I found her and i don't really want to put her down.
"I'll do it!" I say.
"Ok it's settled Ava you stay with baby Avery. Girls let's go." But before they are about to leave they run to me and give me a hug.
"Good luck girls." I say with tears in my eyes. Man I'm emotional.
