Death becomes me

Victoria's pov

Living people say death is a good thing, it ends their loved ones pain and suffering. I on the other hand happen to know this is not true. When you die everything gets worse and you feel yourself gaining more and more pain with each passing day. You're also slipping in and out of consciousness because of this pain. Never knowing which way is up, down, if you're going left or right, all you know is that you're moving. And once you do figure out where you're going the people who put us here, I think their called The Protectors, they flip everything so you're once again confused. Anyway, this is what I have figured out this "place" is called the wasteland, and it's where souls like mine have to stay until they have been "judged", and based on what the "judges" think of you decides your fate. Heaven or Hell. Most people don't even get sent here and if they do they don't worry, they think it's easy, do what you're told pass the test. Well it's not, I've been trying to pass this stupid test for almost 3 earth months. Yes time works differently here. One month equals one year. If you don't pass the test you're sent to a place of torture. They rip you to shreds then put you together and you start the test over. Oh another thing, the more times you fail the less likely of a chance you have of getting into heaven because the "judges" think of you as a threat, something that must be punished, or destroyed. Most souls never see the light of day, or any light after they die. That's because they have to find a way out of this box, the box makes you feel as if you've been buried alive, it makes you panic until you hit it with enough force to open it, or have a heart attack. If you fail this simple test you are sent straight to hell, no do-overs, no second chances-

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING WE HAVE TO MOVE NOW!"

I heard someone scream, I snapped out of my thoughts just in time to dodge a fire ball coming straight towards my face. I looked over to see that it was Kevin, the newest soul in the wasteland. I must say he's doing well, seeing as how he's only been here for a month (wasteland time). I looked at him then to Kat. But it was to late for her, her soul was burned and all that was left of her was her charm bracelet her mother gave her. She's one of the only souls who got to keep something of value to them. As a result of failing the test, she's now lost it. I picked it up, and put it in my pocket. I heard Kevin run over, he looked down at where Kat previously stood. He let out a heavy sigh and said,

"What happened just now, why didn't you try to save her? You've never frozen up before, so don't even try to use that as an excuse."

I was at a loss for words so I used the only defense I had. Bitterness.

"You're new here, I don't have to answer to you. Oh, and by the way, the girl who "loves" you, yeah she's been sleeping with Stephen for the past week. So think about that, then yell at me!"

I knew I truly hurt him by telling him that the girl he loved was cheating on him by the look on his face. I felt bad but I couldn't show any kind of weakness, especially not now, now that "The Protectors" know where we are we have to move, none of us can show any type of vulnerability, they feed off of that. I looked away from him and started walking in the opposite direction, then suddenly everything changed. What was previously a hot desert like climate with flaming fire balls being launched at your face every 5 minutes changed to a peaceful tropical island. Something is wrong.

A/N: Sorry this chapter was short, please comment telling me what you think. THANK YOU!
