Chapter 6: Moriarty's Work

"Raea!" My deep baritone voice reverberated around, catching the attention of some people roaming the lobby but it did not stop the pursuit of her fast walk. Damn it!

She took the elevator and it was too late for me to join her in her journey to the ground floor. I was panting and rivulets of sweats were running down across my face because I used the staircase to reach her. I knew that she heard me and she knew that I was chasing her! But she ignored me and now leading our little unexpected marathon!

I might not be so enthusiastic in our P.E class but I trained my body very well. I could run down the staircase and still able to see her. She thought I couldn't reach her, huh?

Patakbo akong lumabas at nakita ko siyang palipat na ng kabilang lane. Tatawid na sana ako pero biglang pumula ang streetlight kung kaya't hindi rin agad ako nakatawid hindi kagaya niya. Mukhang pati ang sitwasyon ay kinakampihan siya. Nagkadaupang-palad ang aming mga tingin ngunit iniripan niya ako at nagpatuloy siya sa paglalakad, nakihalo sa bulto ng mga tao.

Maybe, she misunderstood again my act of concern. We could have just talked about it inside my apartment! There were times that I don't understand her actions. She is very complicated person.

Sinusubaybayan ko ang bawat mararahas niyang hakbang habang nakakuyom ang mga kamay dahil sa labis na inis. She was really giving me a hard time, huh? Kita ko mula rito na may nakabungguan siyang lalaki pero hindi na niya ito napansin dahil nagmamadali nga siyang takasan ako. My eyes never leave the two of them because the guy was now following her.

Her apartment was distance away from mine but I would never trust the street of Caprus City. This was the reason why I am always bringing her back to her apartment whenever she visits me. I didn't understand why she always found my concern as an act of belittling her!

Nang lumipat na sa tamang kulay ay mabilis akong naglakad, halos patakbo na nga. Mabuti dahil hindi na masyadong marami ang mga taong lumilipat sa kabilang linya kaya wala akong nakakabanggang tao.

The guy was wearing black jacket, black pants and a gray cap. Biglang pumasok sa isip ko ang lalaking janitor na maaring salarin sa pagkamatay ni Maegan. They had the same body built and stature. Raea was now part of the detective club and she could be in dangerous situation right now.

In the dark part of the street, the guy suddenly grabbed her wrist. I could watch Raea's surprise expression plastered in her face then her eyes looked down when he stretched his hand towards her. I didn't what he was holding but it might be a gun!

It was steps away when I made the guy looked at me, who was actually wearing black facemask, and my fist suddenly met his lips. May tumilapon na kung ano ro'n galing sa kanya at itinago ko si Raea sa likod ko para maidistansiya ang kaibigan. The guy landed in the ground same with his eyeglasses.

"Oh my God, Cris!" she shrieked histerically and stopped me. Ang ibang taong dumadaan ay napapansin ang kaguluhan pero walang nangahas na lumapit, pinagpapatuloy at nagmamadali lamang ang paglalakad palayo. By the look in their faces, they might see me as teenage boy who caught her cheating girlfriend with just a random boy.

I ignored those intriguing glares to checked Raea from head to toe to see if she got bruises or what. I heaved a deep sighed when I found nothing and asked, "Are you okay, Raea?"

"Cris I am okay but why the hell did you punch him! He had just returned my handkerchief!" she said in a state of panic and she was not able between scolding me and helping the guy. My mouth formed an 'O' when it dawned in me as my eyes widened.

I looked at him who was still lying at the ground after being punched."I apologize akala ko kasi na-holdap... shit," I didn't continue what I was saying, I took the initiative to help him. I was about to help him stand but he shoved his hand. He picked his eyeglasses and stood, cleaning it with the end of his jacket.
