The pub was small and noisy. Filled with conversations and laughs, dark corners and lovers. Wooden chairs and high tables. The atmosphere was heavy and unbearable and I was extremely happy when we spotted David, Matt, Jamie and Nick chatting and laughing. I sat on an empty seat beside David that was in a very good mood and so were the others, except Alex but he could usually hide it. The only thought that crossed my mind was Alex. His soft lips on mine. His large hands on my small waist. His heavy breathing and his husky voice. I looked at him across the table. He seemed fine but also kind of disappointed. He didn't talk much, he usually doesn't. Alex always ponders and then forms a perfect sentence that can make you forget everyone else in the room.
"Rach doesn't seem that talkative today" Jamie commented which made Alex look at me and I snapped back to reality averting my gaze quickly, focusing on Jamie.
"Yeah, what happened you were in such a good mood in the morning" David noticed also and put his hand around my shoulders, smiling concerned but getting a dirty look from Matt that he didn't see.
"Noo, I'm fiinee" I dragged my voice and chuckled.
In the mean time Matt's phone rang "What's up love? Wait, wait what do you mean? What did I do?" Was Matt fighting with his girlfriend again?
"Oi! That's such a good song!" I put on my facade and smiled trying to change the subject.
"Is this The Cure?" David asked completely unaware" that that was definitely not the Cure.
"That's Velvet Underground!" Alex and I told equally surprised in unison. I turned my head to face him but his gaze was on his beer. The others laughed a little and I joined. So this is how the situation is going to continue between us. Nice.
"The Cure David, really?" I told him with the ghost of our previous laugh on my lips.
"Not everyone is a music-know-it-all Rachel" he mimicked my tone.
"I'm not a music-know-it-all!" I pretended to be hurt placing my hand on my chest leaning slightly back.
"That's indeed a very good song though" David looked around and bobbled his head on the beet like a child.
"Wanna dance?" I asked in an extremely sarcastic tone looking at him up and down.
"Sure!" he laughed getting up.
"Nooo, no! I didn't mean it!" I quickly said as David took my hand and pulled me up.
"Come on!" he pulled me all the way on the dance floor as I turned around seeking help from the guys mouthing "Help me" but the other just burst out laughing letting David lead me to the dance floor.
A great number of people were dancing so we kind of got lost in the crowd. David always made me feel happy, even now that I was a bit heartbroken, even though I didn't want to admit it. So we danced to the music and laughed and basically had fun. I tried to get rid of the memories of me and Alex at the concert. Of us dancing, kissing.
Suddenly David's phone started vibrating and he left me alone on the dance floor to answer it. I stopped dancing and started heading back to the others until I felt a strong grip in my hand and I saw a man pulling me closer. I tried to pull way, slightly pushing him smiling annoyed.
"Where are you going love? Dance for me eh?" he was drunk and sweaty and his breath smelt bad. His hands started moving lower and that's when my push became stronger releasing myself from his now not so tight grip.
"No thank you" I answered seriously and stormed out of the pub leaving him confused. I tried to find David outside but he was nowhere in sight so I just sat on the stairs beside the pub with my head resting on my palm. Μ
