Hi friends! Long time no see! Especially for this story!
Before you read, I had to write most of this chapter on my phone (and it just loves to use auto correct incorrectly, or to translate some words into Swedish ones - and not even the correct translation). So if there is any mispelled words, words that doesn't make ANY sense or just common mistakes - PLEASE tell me!
Either way; enjoy!
-Cara-
Jared joined them on their way to the tavern. Along the way, Keegan and Jared were discussing different outcomes of their so called plan concerning her future, but she couldn't be sure. Not entirely, at least. They spoke too quickly for her to be able to keep up, and at times, Keegan got so upset that he went dead silent for a couple of minutes while Jared kept babbling on. This only angered the silent brooding Keegan even more while leaving Cara in the dark. Now and then, Keegan would start talking again and he spoke too quickly, mainly because of his frustration and anger. The only comfort was that they weren't intentionally keeping her in the dark.
"Let's just see how it turns out." Jared sighed as they stopped outside the tavern. His hand resting on the door handle. It sounded as if he was suggesting something, without expecting much of an answer from Keegan.
Cara openly showed her puzzlement but neither of the them attempted to give her an explanation of what had been said.
When Jared went to open the door, Keegan stopped him by roughly shutting the door close again with his right hand. The slam made Cara flinch and she blinked quickly.
Jeez...
"I don't want to gamble with her safety at risk." Keegan growled at Jared. He drew Cara closer with his left hand softly pulling her by her waist. She looked up at him but he was still looking at Jared. Judging by how they were looking at each other, something was being said without words now.
"Well, you don't have much of a choice, do you?!" Jared exclaimed impatiently when a couple of seconds had passed.
Cara flinched again and hoped that the two of them could either learn how to speak more softly, or control their outburst better. Although, this time Keegan felt it and pressed her gently against him in order to let her know that there was nothing to worry about.
"Now, let me pass so I can have a drink!" Jared complained and forced away Keegan from the door and disappeared inside.
"What is happening?" Cara asked as soon as they were alone. Keegan visibly fuming because of his friend's answer, closed his eyes for a couple of seconds before turning to meet her gaze.
"How do I-" He stopped talking to think of how to construct his sentence in order to make her understand. He struggled and let out a frustrated moan and looked up into the sky before speaking. "The villagers." He stated, indirectly asking if she understood him. She nodded. "Well, they need to... see you." He continued.
Cara felt her face radiate confusion.
"I know. It's strange." He sighed at the sight of her bewilderment. "To keep you safe," he paused to give her time to process the words, "we need to let them see you." He continued.
"Why?" She wondered out loud.
"So that... uh... If those who took you come back for you... Fuck." He turned quiet for a moment.
Slow down, God damn it. I'm barely keeping up with you. She thought at the same time but quickly blocked her own thoughts out so she could focus on listening and - hopefully- understanding what he was trying to say.
